The Tulare County Sheriff's Office held a ceremony honoring the bravery of personnel involved in the April 9, 2026 Porterville shooting, which resulted in the death of Detective Randy Hoppert. The department awarded its highest honor, the Medal of Valor, to Hoppert posthumously and to Deputy Hector Negrete for his actions during the incident.

Federal authorities allege that Missouri House candidate Thomas Christopher Ross orchestrated a scheme to frame his Republican primary rival by planting cocaine and Adderall in her belongings and then reporting her to police. The plot allegedly unraveled when his own campaign manager went to law enforcement instead of carrying it out. Ross now faces a federal criminal charge as calls grow for him to leave the race. 

The Hollywood Reporter article examines the aftermath of celebrity blogger Perez Hilton's highly public mental health crisis in August 2026, when he livestreamed apparent self-harm on TikTok, was hospitalized, and sparked a broader debate about online culture, public shaming, and the responsibilities of social media platforms.
