After a 12-plus-hour meeting, the Fresno City Council approved only one major ballot measure: a proposal to replace expiring Measure C transportation funding with a new city tax that voters will consider in November. Proposals involving redistricting reform, development financing, and other governance changes either failed or were postponed. 

AP reports that Arizona investigators have released two ransom notes tied to Nancy Guthrie's disappearance. One demanded $4 million in Bitcoin and claimed she was alive, while a later note claimed she died shortly after being abducted.

According to Mediaite's analysis, Fox News treated the diary release as a major national story, mentioning Fauci 343 times in 36 hours, while CNN and MS NOW combined mentioned him only 11 times during the same period. The story highlights how different news organizations can prioritize the same event in dramatically different ways. 

KCRA reports that Ashley Garibay, a 23-year-old Stockton In-N-Out manager, was killed while helping train employees at a newly opened Idaho restaurant when a gunman opened fire on August 1. 

According to a Reuters report published by Military Times, the U.S. military is considering requiring some deployed personnel in the Middle East to surrender their cell phones because of concerns that photos, videos, and social media posts could help Iran identify and target American forces and facilities.

The City of Clovis has removed Sierra Vista Mall from its list of official cooling centers after reports that parts of the mall have been experiencing air-conditioning problems. The change comes as the Central Valley prepares for potential heat waves and triple-digit temperatures. 

The Fresno County Coroner’s Office identified the man discovered dead on the roof of a building on the Fresno High campus on Friday as 30-year Daniel Ramirez. A Fresno Unified worker discovered a body on the roof. 

Fresno Unified School District, California's third-largest school district, is facing a significant enrollment decline that officials say is creating serious financial and operational challenges. New projections show the district expects to lose 1,199 students during the 2026-27 school year, an increase from the 1,044 students lost the previous year.
