Child Predator Halted, Ugly Choices & Minesweepers

View descriptionShare

Right off the press release from Asm Tangipas office, Major Terry Slatic reacts to the planned early release of convicted child predator Gregory Vogelsang. His release into Fresno was halted, after Assemblymember David Tangipa intervened. Vogelsang, serving more than 350 years for abusing multiple young boys, will now face a new hearing that could reverse his release.

The Trump administration didn’t fail to perceive the Hormuz Strait risk. It bet a regime survivor (aka an Iranian Delcy Rodríguez) would quickly sue for peace and make the issue moot. Call it a case of scenario fixation syndrome.

Last week as Iran laid mines in the Persian Gulf, four of the U.S. Navy’s few specialist minesweepers were on the move to Philadelphia and their eventual decommissioning. The Navy hasn’t had a significant mine clearing capability in decades. Now it faces having to deal with the risk of mines in one of the world’s most important waterways while the West’s thinking on how to deal with the seaborne threat is in flux.
