CA Minimum Wage Going Up & Spain's Ceuta Migration Crisis

View descriptionShare

California's statewide minimum wage will increase to $17.40 per hour on January 1, 2027, Governor Gavin Newsom announced Friday. The increase will make California's minimum wage the highest statewide minimum wage in the United States.

The NYT live coverage focuses on a historic migration surge in which roughly 50,000 to 60,000 migrants crossed from Morocco into Spain's North African enclave of Ceuta, causing a humanitarian emergency and the deaths of at least 57 people.
