This generation of children more than any other, is living almost their entire lives online.
School, recreation, gaming, and catching up with friends all increasingly happen in the online space - particularly since the COVID pandemic.
But how does that affect their relationships and sexual development as they become young adults?
Stuart Allardyce is a director at the Lucy Faithfull Foundation in Scotland and has worked with children and young people who have displayed harmful sexual behaviours as a practitioner, manager and trainer for more than two decades.
His research is internationally respected, so much so that he is now the chair of NOTA UK and Ireland - which is the National Organisation for the Treatment of Abuse.
Today - Keeping Kids Safe - A Bright Futures podcast for the Daniel Morcombe Foundation - goes to Edinburgh Scotland where Stuart is based, to hear what Australia can learn from their approach, by having resources to help children navigate this new landscape online, where they spend so much of their time.
It’s time for difficult conversations to shine light on this hidden topic. This podcast talks openly about child abuse, child sexual abuse, child sexual exploitation and harmful sexual behaviours.
Each episode of this series will feature practical insights on how to teach your child safety in the world today.
REMINDER: As Denise says in the podcast - Take care when listening. Please contact Lifeline if you need support after listening to this, on 13 1114 or you can call 1800 Respect.
