New Research Shows Almost Half of Elderly People on the Streets Became Homeless After Age 50

View descriptionShare

An increasing number of Americans are entering a state of homelessness after the age of 50. A study out of U.C San Francisco finds the epidemic is impacting about 44 percent of the older homeless population.

It's a problem that impacts low-income seniors, especially in the Bay Area where housing costs and rent are increasingly high.

KCBS Anchor Jon Bristow spoke with UCSF professor of Medicine Margot Kushel, who led the study. Kushel also directs the UCSF Center for Vulnerable Populations
