Letter writing to victims helps incarcerated feel weight of their actions

View descriptionShare

A warning, the story you are about to hear contains references to violence and sexual assault, which may be triggering for some listeners.

All this week here on KCBS Radio, we're following crime survivors who go inside prisons to share their stories with people who are incarcerated for violent crimes.

It is a program run by East Bay non-profit, The Ahimsa Collective.

And as a key component of the work, the prisoners are writing letters to the people that they harmed.

KCBS Radio news reporter Kathy Novak explains from inside Soledad State Prison.
