Historic first west coast Boy Scouts troop struggles to retain membership

The Boy Scouts of America started in 1910. Four years later, San Francisco's first troop was formed in Chinatown. 

Remarkably, it's still around today and is believed to be the oldest troop west of the Mississippi. But, as San Francisco Chronicle culture critic Peter Hartlaub writes about for today's paper, Troop 3 is hanging on by a thread.
