Officials with SMART — the North Bay commuter rail service — say they've seen a 36 percent ridership increase during mid-day service due, in part, because more seniors and students are riding the trains for free seven days a week. 

Meanwhile, KCBS Radio's Jeffrey Schaub reports a change is coming for riders who use both SMART and the Larkspur ferry.
