What It Will Take To Reopen Safely

View descriptionShare

For nearly two months now life here in the Bay Area has been kept to a near standstill, but this time is being used in important ways. Even as most residents shelter-in-place at home, armies of health workers and medical professionals are hard at work, helping to prepare the region for the day when the lockdown is lifted.

On this edition of KCBS In Depth we discuss that work and why health officials say to reopen safely a lot more of it still needs to be done. Then in the second half of the program we take a deep dive into just one of the major efforts underway: contact tracing. We'll hear what it is and why state officials are racing to train thousands of workers to make it happen.

Guests:

  • Dr. Sara Cody, Santa Clara County health officer
  • Dr. George Rutherford, professor of epidemiology at UC San Francisco
