Blog—September 26, 2025—10-11—It’s YOUR Agri Business
Our It’s YOUR Agri Business Show—included topics from the prison vote in Pierre—to Darren Hefty—AG PHD—updating the fall harvest---Terry Ebright—Sioux Valley Energy—looking for ways to stay safe, Mayor Paul Ten Haken—and Lisa Lemon—two of the 12 running across South Dakota for funding to fight suicides, Alla from Ukraine—talking about how South Dakotans still want Ukrainian workers for the places of business---State Climatologist Laura Edwards with a look at the weather ahead---and just how September is leading into the fall and winter months to come.
Darren Hefty—started us off----we talked about the soybean harvest—what farmers are seeing---as well as the corn that got equal time. Fertilizer prices are high this fall—and the question how will farmers feed without breaking the bank. Darren of course –Mr. Baltic does an afternoon show on Sirius 147 or is it 143---but he and his brother are making quite the impression on people here, there and everywhere.
Casey Crabtree—who fought much of the week in legislative quarters for the passing of the $650 million prison---explained why it was done, what it means to South Dakota—and the reactions he saw with the project. The fact that it will take 4 years to build has some concerned---but the concern is safety--- where we are going----and how do you give Governor Rhoden the pat on the back that the previous Governor—Noem couldn’t or didn’t want to do.
Terry Ebright—Sioux Valley Energy –did a safety course for us—paying attention—with all the grown up people tools for grain---being safe—how you do it-----and not getting distracted. He was good at what he shared—as host—I led him along so that we could have some safety and understanding that it is about life –hopefully not death if you are in a position--- to know what equipment you have—how not to turn your head---and then cause major trouble for you, your equipment and others. He’s good at what he does—and I guess I’ve been down the route with him--- and know that what we say—how we say it---could save some damage and hopefully not claim a life.
Sarah Heinrich—KFGO Fargo—had the growing harvest network--- report---just because they are North Dakota—doesn’t mean we can’t work with them to help others. She is good at what she does ---and it gives our station one more important voice on ag stuff—and what they are doing in North Dakota---that we won’t admit it- might be better than we are doing here in South Dakota.
Matt Swenson had the morning commodities-----then we took a journey as was set up by our friends with the 437 Project---what Kelly Marshall had promised would be we would have 2 of the 12 runners running across South Dakota from the western Rapid City area to Sioux Falls. Little did I know I would have the veteran runner Lisa Lemon and Sioux Falls Mayor Paul Ten Haken. They want to raise a million dollars—and hopefully what we are doing as well as those from across the street from the other Kelo---will help swell the money to help prevent suicide. We have asked the two to join us Monday to tell us about the run---and why it is so important to so many families.
Alla---our Ukrainian sweet heart---for 3-4 years was back with us today talking about the businesses in South Dakota that want more Ukrainian workers---even though the Russians continue to push and pull to keep them from being a part of the love-fest between USA and Ukraine. Alla has been there for 4 years—along with two kids—her mom and finally her dad who left Ukraine –even though he knew he would never be able to go back to his home.
Having been with businesses around South Dakota that met and asked for more—not less Ukrainian workers---it has left an impression on all of us---and the winners are our businesses across our great state.
Laura Edwards—our South Dakota State Climatologist joined us to talk about the weather expected for the weekend. We talked as well about the expectations on temperatures thru the end of the month and what she sees in the days, and weeks ahead. We have enjoyed working with her---and know that our audience now understands the difference between a meteorologist and a climatologist---and she has us working with Justin Glisin—the Iowa Climatologist—and is working to make sure that we add Minnesota to our professional list soon.
Our it’s YOUR Business and Agri Business Show—will be hitting the 5,000 number in the next 10 days. Yes I did to 5,000 TV newscasts in a number of states—but it means a lot to me to be able to do 5,000++ radio shows—and help our audience have access to stories in business and agri business.
Listen live to the show at 1320, 105.1, 107.9—use the KELO-App, Streaming on line or just ask Alexa.
Norm Anderson posts the podcast—my job is to schedule the guests, interview them and then write this blog for a summary of what is in the podcast.
