Blog—September 17, 2024-10-11—SD Farmers Union Show
The oldest of the Farm Organizations in South Dakota—is the South Dakota Farmers Union. For years I’ve been happy to work with their leaders and their members promoting Agriculture in this great state. That includes a once a month show that gives us the opportunity to learn more—share more with our audience—and those looking to learn truly what is going on.
In this show—Shelby Landmark—quite the Communication Specialist was in studio and helped us put together a show that included the like of Doug Sombke—Farmers Union President---Zach Ducheneaux-Administrator of USDA Farm Service Agency, Stacy Mongar-Farmers Union Insurance Agent from Sioux Falls, Rob Lee—Kingsbury County Farmer & Board Member—Andy Clemen—Agtegra Cooperative, Mariah Messmer and Addyson Orth—2024 SD State Fair Quiz Bowl Championship Winners, Keolani Latham---SD Farmers Union Enterprises Leadership, Rob Lee—Kingsbury County Farmer and Board member as well
President Sombke—shared the trip to DC—at a time there is less and less chance of a Farm Bill being approved---Mr. Sombke---continues to lead and train for today, tomorrow and beyond. We follow whenever we can—and learn just what those in agriculture are up-against.
Mr. Ducheneaux-is able to share what he saw in DC---and in this election year---as we get closer to November---its obvious –that for the Senators and Congressmen—nothing will get done before voters go to the polls. But farmers keep making the trips---they keep asking---and all we can do is pull for them in 2024.
Zach was appointed Administrator in February 2021—and the hope is to strengthen farm service agency count-level operations.
Rob Lee Kingsbury County Farmers and Board member shared his take on the fly-in----what they saw—who they talked to –and just where –if anywhere it will go.
Interesting guest was Keolani Latham---Farmers Union Enterprises Leadership.
Andy Clemen—Agtegra Cooperative talked about National Farm Safety-Health Week, ATV Safety, grain bin safety, harvest combine tractor safety.
This is a well oiled organization that wants to do more---but political winds keep blowing out the opportunities. We do talk with Senator Thune---Congressman Dusty Johnson-but they too can read the calendar----and pictures on the wall. Not much hope---and the best we can all do is hope—and work for those that rely so much on agriculture.
Our It’s YOUR Agri Business Show does give the organization a place to talk about what they have witnessed—what they see---and perhaps how to get on down the road. It hasn’t been easy--- regardless of which party you are pulling for.
