October 23, 2024—10-11—It’s YOUR Agri Business---Show 46-32
I’m Bill Zortman and welcome to It’s YOUR Agri Business---Show 46-32 in our original It’s YOUR Business Series….
Thursday for me is traditionally a day –I don’t do my It’s YOUR Business and Agri Business Shows----but tomorrow----I’m going to be a little busy with Michael Cartney and a special Ukrainian event at McCrossan Boys Ranch.
Michael----tell us about the day----and what all you have been able to add this week as you did the preparation that may in-deed bring together some very valuable workers for South Dakota Business---and for those from Ukraine—the opportunity to really show what they can do---

For those that don’t know share with our audience----the numbers like there are 380,000 Ukrainians in the US---600 are already in South Dakota and quite frankly those 600 have a lot of success stories and being fulfilled by working here…so that brings us to the summit tomorrow at McCrossan----
---------------------Michael---
-------------we know that there are some similarities with those from Ukraine with agriculture---and being willing to work hard—and be part of their communities
--------------what else can you share-----and what are your hopes tomorrow with this Freedom Haven project----

Who should be a part of it---and what time should we be at McCrossan on Thursday----
-----------------------Michael------------
Each Friday we visit with Alla—who has brought her sisters from Ukraine—and now her parents---she advocates for the Ukrainians---and helps us understand what is happening on the world stage in Ukraine—sometimes its not very easy for her---

I look forward to being part of the Freedom Haven Project tomorrow at McCrossan and have a report on Friday---are you game?

There was another story we shared with our audience this week with the help of Casey Crabtree and the Attorney General Jackley----
Marty announced that $5 million in grants will be shared by 41 SD organizations to use to assist children who have been abused or neglected, victims of domestic violence and victims of sexual assaults—
Money for the grants was included in Senate Bill 168—which provides one-time general funds to be used for the grants—the grants are for organizations that do not receive full funding from the federal Victims of Crime Act Grant—
From one of the agencies this morning ---Michelle Trent is the Executive Director of the Compass Center—one of those organizations and Charlotte Heckman---is with her -----
They are working for the cause—but the picture is much bigger as the funds they distributed are a one-time fund----

----------tell us more about the people you serve is at the
Voca funding crisis---impact on victim services---ongoing need for sustainable funding and highlighting the role or organizations like theirs in support of victims of domestic violence and sexual assault---

-------------------and---and-----------lawmakers—how have they helped—and I understand it is not just a South Dakota problems—other states are facing some of the challenges---
