Another project Culinary education in South Dakota is growing.

A record number of South Dakota high schools are participating in ProStart this year. The two-year, industry-backed program for culinary arts and restaurant management is coordinated by the South Dakota Retailers Association.

High schools in 28 different communities are offering ProStart to their students during the 2026-2027 school year. Elkton and Lower Brule High Schools are offering it for the first time this year.
