Blog---October 10, 2025—10-11—It’s YOUR Agri Business
Show 4999---and we had the names Darren Hefty—Ag PHD—and Jim Woster---the old Tri-State Neighbor right at the top of the show.
Darren –as he traditionally is on Friday—is our first guest he was talking about the importance of this Agri Business radio show. He is always gracious to keep us posted on what is important in ag—and what he will share with his own audience on Sirius 147—nationwide in the afternoon.
The Hefty’s have been around for a long time. They are smart—I love to playfully put one Hefty vs his brother. Who is winning the battle of calls this year?
We talked today about the crops---what he is seeing---and what still needs done. Smart guy---and we are so fortunate to have him in South Dakota---and available to our listeners.
Right behind today was Jake Hanson—Pfeifers who have been around for 81 years—going back to 1944. They help sponsor our shows—and we try to help share what they are doing—how they do it—and how they can help our listeners. They always do. I enjoy them---and know that we can satisfy the audience with their knowledgeable and important information.
Joining us in this hour—Marshall Selberg—been a city council member---and now will formally announce for Mayor next week. We had the quite the discussion in our segment—what he sees—why it is important that Sioux Falls continue to prosper. My job is to interview the candidates—get information for the listeners—and continue to follow the race as it heads into 2026.
Nolan Clarke or was it Brent Baloun—Plains Commerce Bank—they provide help not only in Sioux Falls but a number of communities. We encourage our listeners to call and ask questions on financial issues. They have the answers whether you live in the country or in the City—we see them at farm shows—and know that we are trying to share information for listeners—and those that need help whether it be farms, businesses, newly married or silver haired folks –they all have questions and Plains Commerce is a good place to ask. We do as the Zortman’s.
Sarah Heinrich—had the Growing Harvest Network with our sister station in Fargo—KFGO—she’s a good communicator and isn’t afraid to ask questions.
Right behind was Matt Swenson---Swenson Commodities---yipe the morning grain quotes—other important numbers---and what was happening on the big board on Wall Street.
We heard our weekly Friday words from Alla—who came to South Dakota with her family from Ukraine. She is able to talk to us about what is going on in Ukraine—the concerns the family still has—and try to answer what is there about the Ukrainians that make them so much sought after in South Dakota. They are hard workers—I’ve been to five or so forums with Ukrainians and businesses –who had one thing they wanted. The Ukrainian workers to come there way because of the way that they take care of business. Impressive.
John Ball—Mr. Tree joined he was talking about the South Dakota Christmas tree that will wind up in the capital. Tree is already looking—and he explained what to look for in 2025. He’s smart and keeps me posted.
Mike Costanzo—shared with us the first of the gun shows this season in Sioux Falls. Mike is an old friend and the turnout should be impressive. Obviously they like the idea of exposing young people to weapons and safe hunting. And we follow along.
Laura Edwards joined us to talk about the weather ahead. She is the State Climatologist—and I’m always impressed with what she sees and does. Justin Glisin is the Climatologist from Iowa---and they are working to get us to include Minnesota Climatologists in the future.
Our It’s YOUR Agri Business Show is available in the 10:00 hour—and of course covers the #1 industry in South Dakota. We have so many contributors we have met thru the years and we know that we are able to bring them some updating that is useful for them.
