Blog-November 9, 2021—10-11—SD Farmers Union Show
Once a month –we bring together the Leaders of the South Dakota Farmers Union.
We start this show with late updates from President Doug Sombke sharing the 5014 bill---that affects labeling –packing---and apparently will not help “where the rubber meets the road”.
But there apparently is some good news involving Medicaid expansion---it will be on the ballot next year---and will be something that Farmers Union will promote in the coming year.
With Karla Hofhenke—Executive Director of South Dakota Farmers Union in the studio---we’ll talk about a number of key topics during the hour.
One of those early in the show is Mark Watne—North Dakota Farmers Union President. Watne just attended a UN Climate Change Conference in Glasgow---he shares with us---what he learned---how it will affect the Dakotas---agriculture---and hopefully all of us.
Lance Boyer---fills us in more on the Health Care Insurance that South Dakota Farmers Union has. There are a lot of questions----and with Karla-Luke Reindl—and I will talk some situations and where this is all going.
As is our Tradition with the South Dakota Farmers Union show—we’ll visit with Zach Townsend—as the Farm Family of the month. In the last year or so when he lost his dad---he talks about how they are recovering---and the hopes the Townsend’s have of keeping it a family farm---in Andover, South Dakota
There story is touching---and they are a splendid example of what a Family Farm should be in 2021.
In Pierre—South Dakota Farmers Union Lobbyist—Mitch Richtor updates us on the special session-----South Dakota lawmakers will attempt again today to find an agreement on a new legislative district map. They are looking for agreement both chambers can agree on.
The House map is expected to lead the state to a federal lawsuit involving native American majority districts. And yes the talk continues on Attorney General Jason Ravnsborg.
Out of Washington DC—we’ll talk with Mike Stranz---National Farmers Union---he will share the DC update---how the sized down Biden Proposal will affect agriculture
Karla Hofhenke will share the importance of topics of the upcoming December South Dakota Farmers Union State Convention. Its an important time and we’ll see what is expected.
Swayze Ness---is expected to share the Herd Builder Awardee recognition.
We close the hour with Laura Edwards—South Dakota State Climatologist. After some mild days in the last week or so----what is ahead. Snow expected in some areas----but cooler weather expected for many.
