Blog-November 14, 2023-10-11—SD Farmers Union Show---Show 4,300

Our November South Dakota Farmers Union Show---covered a lot of ground with a number of guests with a number of guests who help us understand---why agriculture is a big deal in agriculture nationwide.

In this show---SD Farmers Union President Doug Sombke joined us—as did Aggressive Communication Specialist Shelby Landmark who worked with me to put the show together.

We started the show with SD Attorney General Marty Jackley—he also serves as head of the State AG’s Association for the good ole USA.

The discussion included—“Right to Repair” for farm machine equipment---in essence farmers need to have the right to repair their own equipment.

Mr. Sombke wants to include neighboring states like Minnesota, Montana and Nebraska to tell the “computers” to let farmers work on their equipment.

Meat Labeling and Country of Origin is still a request and the hope is that consumers still want to know where their meat on their table comes from.

Thursday night—their will be a virtual shop pipeline talk----and while farmers need help----the issue is far from resolved.

Geri Eide---who heads up SD Farmers Union---reported on the year with FFA---including the successful trip to the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis. Raesa Zelinsky from Brookings was our guest---she shared her events---what other South Dakotans did—and why this works as passing the torch to the next generation. 72,956 attended the national event in Indy—and 600 were from South Dakota.

They make us all proud----and we’ll continue to follow them in years ahead.

We visited with the Farm Family of the Month. Kimball, South Dakota’s Urban Family. Ryan and Samantha shared with us what they are doing---how they are doing it and how they have 4 boys---but no girls. They were lovable –and we know that when you find a farm family like this you want to really love and let them know how much we appreciate what they do and how they do it.

We met Cameron Lux---SD Farmers Union Insurance Agent and a veteran farmer. SDFU Insurance gets lots of talk---and gets lots of people that buy in. Being a farmer he understands the need to work with farmers to help that be protected in the scheme of things. Cameron showed it’s his job to cover---and he does.

Mark Cleveland—is a Propane Dept Manager at Prairie Ag Partners in Lake Preston.

He shared preparing your propane tanks and lines---the safety prep for the winter months---expectations on prices for the 2023-2024 winter---and how he is reachable—and caring.

We closed the show with South Dakota’s Mr. Tree---John Ball—he worked with the State of South Dakota---getting the official Capital Christmas tree----and suggested the kind of tree the listeners should get for this season.

Professor Ball---teaches at SDSU—travels the state and is one of the most sought after Tree-sters  in this country. Emerald Ash Borer has been a concern---but he is constantly working with his students---to make sure there are more Mr. and Ms Tree folks in the future.

The South Dakota Farmers Union Award Ceremonies is scheduled for November 31st and December 1st in Huron. We’ll do our It’s YOUR Business Show from the convention---on December 1st-9-11.

Listen live to our shows at 1320, 105.1, 107.9---use the KELO App—Streaming on line or just ask Alexa. Utilize the SD Farmers Union Website as well.

Norm Anderson provides the behind the scenes expertise—making sure the audio gets there as well as this Blog.
