Blog-November 13, 2024-10-11—It’s YOUR Agri Business
Our It’s YOUR Agri Business Show was geographically all over the place in our show today.
Congressman Dusty Johnson (who does want to be Governor of South Dakota) launched the show for us on the Story behind Kristi Noem---becoming Border Czar—and little did we know at the time that when Dusty said that John Thune would become Senate Majority Leader. Most had Thune not being able to get thru the big guns who wanted someone else.
Dusty gave us the scoop—and we didn’t even believe it would happen. It did. Quite the day for South Dakota. And our It’s YOUR Business and Agri Business Show.
Casey Crabtree---shared with us what happens next in Pierre. He is saying that it looks like it will be 2nd week in February before Lt Governor Rhoden will become Governor. Certainly has made for an interesting day for South Dakota.
We appreciate our lawmakers in Pierre and DC working with us for the show---and providing information that is once in a life-time timely like today—November 13th.
While we were talking in Pierre and in Washington DC, and Kansas City----we also had the chance to share a few more stories.
Ron Lamberty joined us as he often does---on the road between Sioux Falls and Kansas City where we have both attended the National Farm Broadcasters Convention. Lamberty was able to set the stage on what needs done—what he expects will be done and the kind of questions his team will be answering thru Friday. We’ll follow-up on Friday----as to what the questions actually were.
Brent Baloun---Plains Commerce Bank talked about what they do as planners. Could be for agriculture---could be for business---could be for young married couples or those that are past their Silver—approaching or having reached their Golden Wedding Anniversary.
They started the Bank in Hoven South Dakota---almost 80 or is 90 or approaching 100 years? WE get to visit with them on the ag, the business and personal business side.
Sarah Heinrich---has the Growing Harvest Network----she is part of the Media Mafia—we work with at Midwest Communications. She provides interesting farm fare----and our audience appreciates it—even though they are a sister station in North not South Dakota.
Matt Swenson---had the morning Farm Prices—Swenson Commodities—it’s always a nice stop around 10:30—with grain, meat, energy and yes the Big Board on Wall Street.
SBA’s virtually new State Director Bryson Patterson on a busy day for the Ag Show—brought along Stacy Kooistra and Nick Blumer to talk about National Veterans Small Business Week. With all the breaking news from DC, Kansas City, and Pierre---they gave us a look at the events they will have tomorrow. We were curious the kind of questions they would be asked at their Thursday Event –and invited them back to talk to us Friday---on the kind of questions they got—and kind of answers they gave.
With it being Wednesday---we talked with Jordan Anderson—Head of Group Sales with Avera Health Plans. Open enrollment is the short window of time for you to enroll in, renew or change your health insurance plan. It started November 1st and is open until January 15th. It has been awhile since Avera talked to us about the Open Enrollment window—but we were able to ask some of the very important questions we asked years ago.
In essence they want your to understand your coverage-what it covers and doesn’t cover. Understand your health and what your risk is for future conditions.
Fitness is a part of the benefits or partnerships ---we talked about the new medications and the My Weigh Forward Program.
Back in Kansas City—we visited with Garner Hatch—Executive Director of the National Association of Farm Broadcasters as well as Michael Clements—Chief Ops Officer.
We’ll talk more with those in Kansas City at the Farm Show in the 10:00 Friday Ag Show. Plus we are interviewing a number of other guests that we will feature in the weeks ahead.
Our It’s YOUR Agri Business Show has made trips all over the country to DC, San Francisco, Scottsdale, and events across South Dakota. We appreciated the South Dakota Farmers Union nominating me for the National Farm Broadcaster of the Year. It was nice to get the award—and to show that we do know what is important in Agriculture in our State—and what issues the want us to cover.
Listen live to the show at 1320, 105.1, 107.9---use the KELO-APP—Streaming on line or just ask ALEXA. Norm Anderson posts the show for listeners who want to catch up or listen again.
