Blog—November 19, 2024—9-10--It’s YOUR Business—Show 46-58
Our It’s YOUR Business Show got to pick some interesting topics for November 19th –just a week+ before Thanksgiving---- and we appreciate all the people that work with us to help tell their business and agri-business stories.
In this show---we got to roll up our sleeves and loosen our thinking cap to invite people to led people know about “Feeding South Dakota” providing 6,000 Thanksgiving meals with help of matching gift from the Greg & Pam Sands Foundation in Sioux Falls.
Donations made to Feeding South Dakota thru Thanksgiving Day will help the hunger-relief organization provide traditional Thanksgiving meal groceries to 6,000 families facing hunger during this holiday season.
On Saturday –November 23rd—volunteers will help distribute 1,500 meals at community giveaways in Sioux Falls and Rapid City. Each meal contains the items needed to prepare for a Thanksgiving at home including turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, potatoes, green beans, gravy yes YAMS, pumpkin pie, apples, carrots, break and milk.
The remaining 3,000 meals will be distributed throughout November by Feeding South Dakota’s agency partners, such as food pantries and hot meal sites, in an additional 40 communities across South Dakota.
A matching gift made by the Greg and Pam Sands Foundation, will help support the giveaways by doubling the impact of donations made to Feeding South Dakota 4-28th.
Greg and Pam Sands are Sioux Falls and yes South Dakota community leaders and philanthropists who have long supported Feeding South Dakota and its mission.
As Pam Sands put it—“We hope that our match encourages others to contribute to this great community event.” As inflation continues to impact grocery prices, financial support is integral to the ability to continue distributing holiday grocery meals.
“Thanksgiving is a time of joyous gatherings, and we want to continue to ensure families are able to share turkey and pumpkin pie, even when times are challenging”.
Meals will be distributed on a first come first serve basis, no registration, qualification or sign-up is required to participate. Each family will receive one meal with a maximum of two families served per vehicle.
The Sioux Falls giveaway will take place from 8 to 10AM at the WH Lyon Fairgrounds on November 23rd---of course Rapid City will be 8 to 10AM but that is Mountain Time at the Central State Fairgrounds—yes on the 23rd.
We know that Governor Kristi Noem and Senator John Thune have new roles in Washington DC----Noem is border watching and enforcing---Thune---is controlling the Senate.
As we look at that –we know that there are changes in State Government as well. Today we had the opportunity to interview the new Senator-Elect Chris Carr. His counterpart—the Majority Leader Jim Mehlhaff---had to take a rain check---but our promise is to visit with Chris and Jim during the upcoming planning and then the legislative sessions. We thank Casey Crabtree for his role in the last couple of years------and Brent Hoffman—for making sure---our Business and Agri Business Show made the transition to the new team. It’s important that the media work with the Leadership---ask the right questions---and then just as important is giving the right answers for the public to understand.
We did a little previewing of some important events ---the first is at the November 23rd---Freedom’s Haven Funding that involves Ukraine---Alla---and yes people all over South Dakota that are trying to get more of the “hard working Ukrainians” into the work force in South Dakota. The event is Hamre Hall at Augustana---with original music---We had a chance to hear lawmakers---business leaders—state employees make the case at McCrossan Boys Ranch ---earlier in the month to get more of the Ukrainian workers into South Dakota. They are dedicated—they are good workers---and all those at McCrossan (I believe all of them) wanted even the media to work a little harder to get them here inside our borders.
Also in this show we were able to utilize the interviews that with the help of Dave Scaturro and Norm Anderson we were able to do looking at farming at the National Farm Broadcasters Convention in Kansas City. Great story lines—and yes many came from Sioux Falls and this area---to go—learn and share what we are doing.
Our It’s YOUR Business Show promotes business---ideas---workers—and communities. Something we think more should be doing.
