Blog—May 9, 2025-10-11-It’s YOUR Agri Business Show
Darren Hefty—AG PHD—yes that Baltic Hefty Family that does the Sirius 147 National Show at 2PM on Agri-culture nationwide and world-wide –joined us and we talked about farming—
He wanted to talk about pastures and what farmers are doing as cattle get turned out for the summer. Jerry Schmitz—SD Soybeans would be happy that we talked about where we are—but the warm weather has the beans emerging very quickly—which may create some challenges for our farmers.
Darren also took part in a soil conservation tour that Governor Rhoden was at. We’ll talk more about what they saw and what the beans (and corn) are doing next Friday.
Jeff Kippley—National Farmers Union VP and South Dakota Farmers Union VP shared with the tour that 100+ farmers from 20+ states did in Washington DC this week. Rob Larew joined us mid-week—and between the two of them we got a feel of the need for a Farm Bill, Tariffs, and how tough the situation is for our farmers. We’ll have the South Dakota Farmers Union Show 10-11—this coming Tuesday.
We talked with Chris Bartmann—Gingerich Structures—about what he brings to the table.
Quality of your buildingsAbility to customize builders (Chris isn’t a beginner he has designed homes and other structures for 30 years)We talked about what sets Gingerich Structures apart from the competitors. We did test him a little about his ability to give fast, accurate pricing RIGHT AWAY to the customer who is askingHe has a thorough understanding of the ag world and construction industry as it is today—and expects to be tomorrowHe can get right to the job quickly—but right now with farmers in the field and working—rainy days can be very useful in May 2025. We’ll visit with him in June about the kind of projects he is up for those that want to get rolling.
Sarah Heinrich---had the Growing Harvest Network---from KFGO in Fargo—
Matt Swenson—the Morning Commodities—and yes the Wall Street update right on the HALF HOUR.
One of the letters that came into our stations---a note from Andrea Schlosser---helping with a May 10th—7-10PM Memorial Benefit at Active Generations at 2300 W 46th Street. The memorial benefit is for the Janene Grosz’ family to help with medical expenses she incurred since August 2022—which she was battling cancer.
On a night in August 2022—Janene started running a fever and thought it was just the flu coming on. The next morning, she started getting stomach pains which became more severe as the day progressed. She went into urgent care where they did some tests and admitted her into the hospital to do more procedures. Here they found that she had stage 4 cancer in her colon and the cancer had spread to other parts of her body including her lungs. She had a surgical procedure to remove the tumor in her colon which had sealed itself against the line of the stomach before they removed it.
On Sunday April 27th-Janene lost her battle with cancer surrounded by her children and her husband while under hospice care in her home.
In 2025-the American Cancer Society projects that 2,041,910 new cancer cases will be diagnosed and 618,120 deaths will occur. Early detection can help with proper screenings.
Coming up on this Saturday—there will be 4 bands performing a variety of Country music and 50’s music. Men in Black, Vinyl 5, Vance Tuffs will be taking the stage with Joe Kickazz---along with others to follow.
All of the musicians are donating their time tu support their friend Janene who enjoyed sharing the stage with a lot of them. There will be a silent auction for items donated by Eastway Bowl, Vern Eide, The Alliance-Medi Hot Pads. Not a charge at the door but they are asking for a free will donation.
We’ll check with the group and see how they did early next week.
Justin Glisin—Iowa State Climatologist---gave us the look for the weekend and beyond. The 90’s are coming but he says expect some changes in the weather pattern before we close out August.
