Blog-May 7, 2024—9-10---It’s YOUR Business—
Our It’s YOUR Business show---on a terrific Tuesday---took us a lot of different –but interesting locations.
Scott Lawrence---Chamber of the Sioux Falls Chamber of Commerce was with us to talk about projects and groundbreaking ahead this week.

Groundbreaking of the Boys and Girls Club at McGovern School is scheduled for 11:30---the ability to serve hundreds of students each day—the Boys and Girls Club will provide new services and opportunities for students and their families after school on non-school days and weekdays during the summer months.

The other groundbreaking Sioux Falls and Dakota State University Applied Research Lab is just ahead.

The Sioux Falls Development Foundation is in charge---but the good chamber members understand they are a big part of what this community is all about.

Scott Lawrence---yes The Leader of the Band Mr. Lawrence has 4 months or so left in his year. We want to thank him for what he has done not only this year but thru the years---and in future years. The Leader of the Band Show is scheduled 2 weeks from today on May 21st.

Schools are saying as we approach the end of the school year we should take some time to thank our teachers for what they have done. Our tour guide this morning was Amy Miller----who in October 2023—was awarded the State CTE  Leadership Rising Star Award from Advance CTE—the national organization dedicated to Career and Tech Education.

Amy was born and raised a South Dakotan—growing up in Faulkton really instilled in her “small-town pride” from a young age. Believing that with the right tools anything is possible. Amy spent the last  years as an administrator for Webster High School. In 2020 she joined the SD Dept of Education as the Assistant Director Career and Technical. What she did was identify career paths that keep our rural life viable and connecting existing industry to our schools to keep the workforce pipeline strong.
As a Rising Star Awardee—she was a perfect guest to salute our teachers---and she did just that.
Angela Kennecke---on this May 7th---helps us remember National Fentanyl Awareness Day. An event scheduled at the Sioux Falls Law Enforcement just an hour after the interview left her continuing to work with families, schools and students. Angela lost her daughter 6 years ago---but she continues to push and help us in the media—and the public understand. CDC said there were 72,000 deaths each year when her daughter died-today that number is at 112,000. Any chance we can we want to let her share her story---with the hope of helping other families.
9:44—we shared a follow-up to the Mock Drill that the Sioux Falls Schools with the help of the police, fire, patient care EMS and Ambulance Service did on Friday.
Dax Briden told his story today---of what he saw---how the exercise affected him and what students should learn about emergency services. Dax wants to follow-up after graduation and hit a career field that could have experience any of the three events that were included on Friday. Dee Ann Konrad helped us last week set the stage for what was going to happen---she even reported for us during the exercise—and today we shared Dax and Kenzie stories in the 9 and 10 shows that will perhaps affect others in 2024.

Our It’s YOUR Business Show—likes to share the story lines by letting others help tell the story. Today was a show that did that.

Norm Anderson will post this show a podcast----for the May 7, 2024-9-10 show. Use my notes as a Blog of what was in the show and where to find it.
