Blog—May 6, 2025—9-10—It’s YOUR Business
Our It’s YOUR Business Show---takes care of unusual businesses---and how they are really extra special and newsworthy.
This morning in both the 9-10 and 10-11 show---with Mother’s Day ahead of us we were looking at ways to help those hard-hit mother’s that really need something special—besides just flowers on the big Mom’s Day.
Jackie Sorensen---yes one of the owners of Thorson Heating and Air Conditioning for the third year in a row is giving away a Mother’s Day Air Conditioner and Furnace Giveaway.
90 or so enteries in the first year in 2023—in 202—that went to 112 or was it 120—but it was a lot---and this year with one day to go 108 are entered ----
Jackie shared how they decided to do this as Thorson Heating and Air Conditioning---how a third party team judges them----and it provides a chance to showcase to other Heating and Air Conditioning organizations what they might do to make a difference in their community.
All entered are due in by May 7th—and the winner will be announced on May 11th—Mother’s Day.
In talking with Jackie—and learning about the first two winners---your heart is touched---and if you know a mother that has had a difficult hand dealt them---how it makes Thorson Heating and Air Conditioning –know that the $15,000 unit they giveaway is special. We only hope more people will enter and that other Heating and Air Conditioning companies will do something in the future.
We visited with Jill Skots---in Hartford—she grew up there---went away with her husband and came back—and as Mayor Arden Jones shared with me---Jill is creative –makes a difference and will be one more person making a big difference in the community. She is working on the “Discover Hartford Campaign—and will make a difference today, tomorrow and beyond in the community of 3200 or so.
Living in Hartford—I even volunteered to get involved and help where we can. We’ve been there 20 or so years----and my Carolyn and I have traveled in worked in Texas, New Mexico, Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, Kentucky, and of course Iowa and South Dakota. We appreciate what Jill Skots is doing—and we should help if we can.
We talked with Amy Evans—who shared with us what Tea did---this last weekend. As she explained—Tea is the only 55+ community West Metro side—close to the interstate.
HOA—lawn, snow, clubhouse, trash----that brought over 20 new residents claiming a spot in the community.
New clubhouse includes gathering space, kitchenette area, exercise area, outdoor entertaining space and yes even a pickleball court.
Options on 80+ units of pre-designed spec homes—with various floorplans or custom built in the development.
Current $10,00 Anything Allowance offered only on twins and townhomes in the development. The opening was last Sunday----and we were happy to tease it last week and share what they will continue to do now.
Must be getting close to summer Julie Hammer---Sioux Empire Fair made their first announcement this morning on an act that will be part of the Fair. Julie and yes our friend Scott Wick—keep us updated on the Sioux Empire Fair coming in just a few weeks or really 2 to 3 months. We’ll continue to watch for more announcements every Tuesday.
Our It’s YOUR Business Show—doesn’t have to be all about hard breaking news—it can be about what communities are doing for others. That was kind of what this show was today.
