Blog-May 31, 2024—10-11—It’s Your Agri Business
Final show in May---thanks for being with us—we had a lot to talk about and we know that with our variety of topics we have a real chance to find something in agriculture and yes business that you would be interested in.
Darren Hefty—AG PHD started this one off—talking about how fast the weeds are growing in their fields---question how the rain is impacting the management of the pesky wees----the corn is growing quickly----and we wanted to know what the farmers would be watching out for in the 2024 corn crop. Pastures—according to the Hefty Boys---look ‘great’ after the rain---
Sometimes so much rain –like in this show where Iowa Ag Secretary Mike Naig was scheduled in the show but had to turn to replanting corn after the destructive tornadoes and abundant moisture to close out menacing May. We’ll get him next week—WEATHER PERMITTING.
We were able to get one of our South Dakota Senators during the 9:00 hour---Mike Rounds joined us at 9:32----the slot that Ron Nelson usually gets every other Friday. But we talked with this highly successive Commercial Real Estate partner about the questions they are getting. Is now a good time to buy Commercial Real Estate? What’s going on with Kaldi’s, Zoop, Red Lobster---they are closing?
Ole Nellie has been involved for a long time in Commercial Real Estate and he gives us a briefing---takes our questions---and always keeps our listeners in mind.
Earlier in the week with talked with Scott Wick----Sioux Empire Fair----after he said they were helping their friends at the SD State Fair helping remind our listeners about the Thomas Rhett Concert coming in June. Candi Briley picked it up from there today—sharing we are 88 days before the start of the SD State Fair----giving us some insights on events that will happen between now and then----
We always enjoy working with our fairs----it good for the State---good for the kids----good for communities---and keeps agriculture in the number one slot across South Dakota.
Our regulars around the half hour---Sarah Heinrick---KFGO—Growing Harvest Network gave us our morning news from North Dakota and in our geographic part of the world. Right behind—Matt Swenson---owner-partner---Swenson Commodities gave us our closing report for May 2024. We appreciate his up-to-the-minute stuff each market day—the grain—the energy---the meat and yes the Big Board on Wall Street.
Our good friend Joe Batchellor –Downtown Sioux Falls helps us with a few tips on what’s happening for the weekend in the biggest city of South Dakota. You can go on-line and get the complete list---and why not go-downtown—you’ll see some of your family, friends and perhaps new folks you can meet. Thanks JOE!!
Duell Higby---Sioux Falls Canaries-helped us give-away a 4-pack for Tuesday June 4th—and then talked about the “High Flying” Birds-lying in weigh for the Spirited Sioux City Explorers coming to town. 11-6 is the start for Sioux Falls---and their of great events—for the Give ‘Em the Heater Night tonight featuring Ricky Wild Thing Vaughn Bobbleheads. Included the celebration of the best and funniest baseball movies of all time—“Major League” turning 35. New food vending at the Cage---Healthcare Heroes Night Saturday---Sunday---Family Fun Day----and Tuesday Strikeout the Stigma Night on Mental Health Awareness Night—2-fer Tuesday.
Yes the Canaries have a wide variety of awesome in-house made concessions, desserts, beer and now cocktails!
Justn Glisin—Iowa State Climatologist helped us with an update from the Hawkeye State-hit by tornadoes—heavy rains—and they need our attention and prayers. Justin helps us understand.

Alla---our Ukrainian Tour Guide---updated how her Hometown was hit----the kind of fears still going on there---while reminding us how her family---one by one-sometimes two at a time have fled Ukraine for South Dakota. We need to keep you informed –and will as they continue to meet---talk—and make a difference in our State.
Jaime Wood—SBA of South Dakota introduced us to her partner—actually her boss from Colorado---Region 8 Administrator Alkta Marcoulier---they are sharing projects they are doing between the two states—we were able to tease a little bit in this show—and will give you a full-play-by-play on Monday.
