Blog—May 30, 2025—10-11—It’s YOUR Agri Business

Darren Hefty—Ag PHD leads off the show that features the #1 industry in South Dakota----

Today we talked about how quickly they expect this crop that’s yellow and slow-growing to turn around with sunshine and warm weather.

Some of the weeds look like they’re getting pretty big out in fields, what do farmers do to control and knock out those bigger weeds?

We talked about their scouting and scholarships event coming up less than a month from now.

We talked about a special Hefty Publication that talked about Aberdeen –Baltic and Centerville. Yes the A-B-C’s and the Hefty folks are seeing in the fields. It’s a publication they publish frequently and it was kind of fun to list some of the findings and ask this Mr. Hefty about it.

We did visit with Larry Kotten---Lake Madison Development Association—the Director of Water Safety. With him a neighbor to the Gorman’s who a couple of years ago lost their daughter in a boater safety accident. This was the first of our series of reports about what the State of South Dakota was doing to bring the boating laws in line with neighbors in other states. It took Kotten-the neighbors---and even our Legislative friend Casey Crabtree to change the law that will become law on July 1st. Between now and then we will do segments on our Wednesday Wellness Show and on our Friday Shows—talking safety—and making the adjustments in South Dakota. Check us out in June on Wednesday and Friday’s leading up to the new law going into effect July 1st.

We did the first in a number of reports with Pfeifer’s implement. Today we talked with Jake Hanson about the Bobcat National Sales Event—and 0% financing. The Big Case discounts, the rental dept—some miscellaneous with skid loaders ready to roll—

With all the gorwing grass---mowers and Kubota and Bobcat with some excellent terms 0% just ain’t bad.

We will do more Pfeifer’s talking in June—and we look forward to it.

Casey Crabtree joined us in the 10:00 show along with Larry Kotten----we are following the calendar that is looking for the July 1st—effectiveness that will bring our state into comparative safety with neighbors in Minnesota, Iowa, North Dakota—and others. That big change coming in just about a month will be a big deal—and because safety is paramount---we’ll continue to talk on Wednesday and Friday shows until we hit the Legislative Date—July 1st that sent.

Sarah Heinrich gave us the Growing Harvest Network from KFGO in Fargo---Matt Swenson had the wrap on the commodities and markets during the month of May—and gave us what has happened already this morning.

We talked with Alla from Ukraine---well she was from Ukraine—she moved to the USA—yes South Dakota. Her brothers came next—then her mom and finally her dad who didn’t want to leave the house vacant in Ukraine. We follow each week—and to see how Ukrainians are scoring in South Dakota-I’ve attend a number of events that included the Ukrainians---to see if they are sought—and needed. Being an old journalist who hasn’t told a lie doing 1,000 TV newscasts around the country—and getting close to 1,000 radio shows in Sioux Falls—you know if it was different you would hear about it.

Lisa Ottmar—an old friend—I’m old she is just the friend talked to us about the Inspirational Yard signs—Free 988 yard signs being given away Saturday from 10 to noon at Minnwest Bank at 501 S Louise. The Helpline Center reminds the community that 988 Suicide and crisis Lifeline is available 24-7 for anyone experiencing emotional distress—a mental health crisis or substance use issue. People can also call, text or chat 988 if they are concerned about a loved one who may need health.

South Dakota State Climatologist Laura Edwards joined us to look at what to expect for the weekend---and what May was like in summary and how she views June—just ahead.

Norm Anderson posts the Podcast on the KELO-AM website—and I schedule the guest, they prep me and I prep them---and we have a conversation that the audience can learn from. I write the blog---and continue to count radio shows that is well over 4800—in route to at least 5000.
