Blog---May 21, 2024—Leader of the Band Show---44-83
This Leader of the Band Show with Scott Lawrence---and cast was about counting votes—but it turned out to be much more----people wanting to make a difference with the June 4th elections.
With Scott’s music—from the “Honeymooners” we started with Amber Arlint---running for re-election in District 12. Her dad and I think her grand-dad were part of the election parade—and they made a difference. Amber with Mr. Lawrence right there –and yes Ole Bill---sharing as well--- we talked about what she felt was needed for the district----Dan Kipley---yes the candidate and my Hartford League Golf Partner has been making the rounds with her as well as another lawmaker from Sioux Falls to get re-elected. Her mom was a law-maker---and we talked the basics but the future as well. Interesting drum-beating---and we see from Amber---the need to do it not only for those that did it in the past—but for her young family for tomorrow and beyond. She wants something beside that 6.8% turnout we saw in the primary. She is a listener—and a do-er----and the fact that her grand-dad was a lawmaker from Freeman, SD—she knew how to push for the silver Sioux Falls bullet as well as the hundreds of small locations that need support as well.
Second up was Richard Thomason---now the At-Large Seat holder on the Sioux Falls City Council. He is a banker by trade-serving as the Relationship Manager at Central Bank. He was elected in 2020 as a State Rep from District 13—he according to Councilor Alex Jensen—says Mr. Thomason has a sincere understanding of the issues facing our community—and I know he’ll e a great advocated for public safety and fiscal responsibility. He also favors—fiscal responsibility and balanced budgets to go along with low taxes. Thomason is driven by what he calls—“great respect for our city government and am excited for the opportunity to get involved in a meaningful way to help take Sioux Falls to the next level.
Casey Crabtree---yes that Mr. Crabtree came from a Brookings Optimist
Club meeting this morning where thanks to those that knew the basics of first aide ---he witnessed the gentleman affected suffer a heart attack or seizure. It was a reminder that those that know first aid can make a difference at that kind of meeting. It was a life saver this morning----and we had quite the conversation about knowing the basics.  In addition to that Casey talked about Amendment E—the constitution to change male pronouns in the Constitution to gender-neutral terms or titles. Amendment F—the Amend the SD Constitution to provide that the state may impose awork requirement on any person who has not been diagnosed as being physically or mentally disable for eligible individuals to receive Medicaid under the Medicaid expansion tat took effect on July 1st a year ago.
Amendment G---would make abortion legal in South Dakota with regulations after the first and second trimester.
The other is Initiated Measure 2B—prohibit state sales taxes on anything sold for human consumption not including alcoholic beverages or prepared food which is defined as food that is sold heated or with utensils.
Casey talked about what is ahead---how we can work together----including the work of the Sioux Metro group---that has 6 communities working together.
Brad Jankord—is an announced surviving candidate for District 13 House. Brad is committed to bringing a fresh perspective and enthusiastic problem-solving skill to the South Dakota Capitol.
It would focus on community---for this candidate raised in Redfield –a bachelors from USD---and connected to the concerns of South Dakota. He is currently VP of Lending for the South Dakota Development Corporation. He has spent more than 10 years of banking and lending where he works to grow small businesses and communities across South Dakota. He talked about his family values and vision for the future—his commitment to District 13—but as a public servant not a politician----all hoping to make a meaningful difference in our communities.
Interesting Leader of the Band Show---and all put together by Scott Lawrence getting down to the final months of his run as Leader of the Sioux Falls Chamber of Commerce.
