Blog—May 20, 2025-9-10—It’s Your Business

Our It’s YOUR Business Show took advantage of a rare Tuesday that didn’t have a Leader of the Band Show, Tax Talk with Tim Ness, or South Dakota Farmers Union and South Dakota Farm Bureau---hour long shows.

So with a little help with staff around me—we decided to talk about organizations coming together, communities coming together, and even Military Appreciation Month.

In the 9:00-10:00 show---Adrianna Peoples helped us with Military Appreciation Month---- and Senior Month Too.

Josh Wren—helped us celebrate Seniors Helping Seniors—it is a franchise system founded by husband-and-wife duo Kiran and Phillip Yocum. Kiran, who grew up in India, later worked to advance humanitarian efforts along Mother Teresa. After moving to the US in 195 and marrying her husband Phillip, the Yocums felt called to provide loving care to seniors and to cultivate an exchange of gifts at every generational level. Together the Yoin-home services in 1998, opening the brand up to franchising in 2006. With a mission to be the most respected and rewarding home care provider in the U.S. Seniors helping Seniors locations stand apart as the only company that prioritizes hiring active seniors to provide care services to their less-active counterparts.

They align caregivers and care recipients based on the abilities and needs of both by offering a wide range of care services. Seniors Helping Seniors network has grown to 00 territories nationwide and over 200 franchise partners in 37 states.

Lauri Hoffman@sanfordhealth.org talked to us as the Program Coordinator with the Community Blood Bank.

Today she gave us update as to how people out there can help—we know that there has been an abnormal amount of blood needed—and with the weather and challenges out there---if you can give blood—and how they do it.

We got the answer on who should give blood---and how needed the blood has been in the first 4-5 months of 2025.

We learned how often you can give—and if you are a donor—you can help yourself for the family.

Tyler Tordsen---Sioux Metro Alliance---explained a few of the things they are doing in the dozen plus or is it 16 communities that are part of the group. Amy Farr joined in the first segment---she leads the Hartford Area Development Foundation. The did a bus tour last week that featured many SMGA member communities—it started in Brandon, went to Garretson, over to Crooks, up to Lyons and over to Salem and then back.

Plus we learned about the groundbreaking event for a new business coming to the Northern Oaks Industrial Park in Hartford.

Thanks to Oliver Mayes—Executive Director—Premier Playhouse---talked with us about being the folks around since the beginning as the Sioux Empire Community Theatre in 2003, today the announced an expansion to us in their scope of operations. The community theatre is relocating its operational headquarters from the Orpheum Theater Center to a larger, multi-purpose space across the street in the Rocki Island Plow Building, The move allows the organization to better serve its growing patristic community with expanded class offerings, rehearsal spaces, and event capabilities.

The expansion is made possible in part by the Sioux Falls Area Community Foundation’s Community Fund---as they are seeking an additional $30,000 in matching donations to fully support the first year of expansion.

As part of the commitment, The Premiere Playhouse will be significantly lowering their mainstage ticket prices to ensure the community theatre remains truly affordable and welcome to everyone.

The organization’s shift reflects its evolving vision and commitment to fostering artistic growth.

There will be an Artist Development Services and we promise to keep an eye on what they are doing. Sue Martens with us this morning—she has been a player in the events for years.

Listen live to the show at 1320, 105.1, 107.9 –use the KELO App or streaming on line.
