Blog-March 8, 2022—10-11—South Dakota Farmers Union Biz Show
It’s that time of month---the 2nd Tuesday—10-11—time for the South Dakota Farmers Union Show.
With all the turmoil in the world----we know that bringing guests together on the 2nd Tuesday of the month and talking agriculture---gives those in agriculture—and those that are feasting for agriculture a chance to know some of what’s cooking with South Dakota’s Largest and Oldest Farm Organization.
Today—Luke Reindl---who works the information side for SDFU—is in studio with me—but others are scattered.
Doug Sombke—is President of the South Dakota Farmers Union---he will be by phone---as well Jeff Kippley---just elected National Farmers Union Vice President. Rob Larew—is the National Farmers Union President---he will be with us from phone---but not sure if it is Washington DC—or a sight of a national farm show.
The new Vice President is in the spot-light---we’ll talk about his Tax background—what he’s doing 5-6 weeks before the April 18th Deadline—talking farm stuff—on his 5th generation farm stead, here in South Dakota---and on the nation-wide stage.
SDFU President Doug Sombke---and Mr. Kippley will lead the discussion on the money to be spent in South Dakota—price transparency---MCool—higher ethanol blends that could make the future bright to agriculture.
The right to repair---farmers and ranchers should have the right to repair their own equipment or choose a 3rd party private repair service.
Plus we’ll talk crop inputs---sale of ag commodities—with a general discussion on market concentration.
National President Rob Larew jumps in around 10:19---we’ll discuss fairness for farmers, nationwide campaign highlighting the unjust difference between Ag and family farms/ranchers.
How will President Larew—and his new VP Kippley work together---we’ll hear them talk about what is needed---what is ahead----and obviously how you not only generate interest and help from the 4th-5th-6th generation farmers—but the new families getting into the ranching and farming business.
Doug Sombke will share his presentation on biofuels at the National Farmers Union sessions---talk bio fuels vs Electric Vehicles---combustion engines are still necessary and practical ---but better choices need to be made.
Corn and soybean help---all can generate a bio fuel which burns cleaner than traditional petro.
Around 10:45---we’ll talk to the South Dakota Farmers Union—lobbyist in Pierre—Mitch Richtor---we’ll see what he sees and hears with all the foolishness and name calling that has gone on---the concerns the Governor has about spending the money---with the disagreement still on where to spend it.
We close the hour with South Dakota State Climatologist—Laura Edwards---you know it’s a changing time of year—when Daylight Savings Time comes back this weekend---when temperatures are seeing very cold readings here in South Dakota—and killer-E-4 Tornadoes in the friendly neighboring state of Iowa.
Laura gives us the look ahead---some of the stats for this winter---and hopefully some information that can be helpful---not keeping those in agriculture up nights.
Our South Dakota Farmers Union Show---brings leaders---average families---and organizations together---it is informational---not formal----but is something I’m pretty darn proud of each month.
