Blog---March 5, 2025—9-10—Working on Wellness Wednesday

Last week 3 of the 4 segments were Sanford and Avera in this show—today—we went a little different direction.

We started with Joe Kippley---Sioux Falls Health Director. Later this month we will include Mr. Kippley with Melissa Magstadt—South Dakota State Health Director. They were on our show in Pierre for Sioux Falls Day and we decided to get them together once a month or so to talk about health concerns across South Dakota and in the Sioux Falls Area. We hope other areas in South Dakota will be doing the same.

Today Mr. Kippley was talking about Avera and Sanford---and task force that works to keep people as healthy as they can. Last night at one of the meetings there was a disagreement—and much like the President’s National Speech—people had to be removed. Just one in Sioux Falls---Mr. Kippley has been with us for less than a year---and we want our listeners to be able to understand what they do—how they work together with Sanford and Avera----and the help people can get.

One of the projects the State Health Director has just started working on is material infant mortality. Either next Wednesday or the following week we will get the two of them talking about that event---as well as what else we can do in South Dakota to share better opportunities at health care.

AARP’s Mary Michaels joined us—and we discussed what they are distributing statewide.

In essence watch out for Social Security Scams---as Mary explained that are popular ways for criminals to steal money and sensitive information by impersonating a trusted source—often a government agency. According to the FTC victims of a government imposter scams—has reported over $577 million stolen from them in 2024—and due to a underreporting that’s likely a vast undercount. Social Security Administration is frequently the target of imposter scams.

How it works: You get an unexpected call, text or email from someone claiming to be from SSA who needs you to respond urgently. They may say your Social Security account has been suspended, that your Social Security number has been compromised or that you need to fill out a form to get your annual cost of living increase.

Social Security Administration almost never contacts people unexpectedly so assume a contact from the agency is a fraud attempt.

Advise----don’t engage with anyone who unexpectedly contacts you and claims to be from Social Security. If you shared your Social Security Number—and feel it was part of a scam, file a police report for a record, and go to IdentityTHEFT.gov. for specific guidance on protecting against its use in identity Theft.

Joining us in the 9:32 slot of the show was Dr. Joshua Jorde---last week we shared the tenth anniversary with Dr. Max Reinecke—who has been on the air with us for 10 years. He will be retiring soon----

Dr. Jorde today---talked about the chiropractors who work on the athletes on the sidelines in basketball and baseball games---others even do the Superbowl. Sport injuries are a fair common reason people of nearly all ages go in for chiropractors.

It’s no wonder the fact that every single NFL team has at least one chiropractor on staff. Most other professional sports teams do as well. The legendary Michael Jordan---shared “if it hadn’t been for Chiropractic –he wouldn’t have improved by leaps and bounds as well as mentally and physically.

However other therapies can be quite helpful as well and one in particular that is offered with Dr. Jorde—is the ARPwave. Its essentially a direct current electrical stim, as opposed to a TENS unit using and indirect current. Odell Bechham Jr—has been open about its use to recover from a knee injury and get back to full strength to continue competing at the NFL level. But even for more everyday individuals, its great for retraining muscle groups back to normal motion patters to help keep everything else strong and stable.

If you are getting ready for any sports coming up, or still recovering from winter season sports (or any other injury for that matter) you can find Jorde Chiropractic Clinic just north of the Hy-vee on Minnesota Avenue at 2821 S Center Avenue.

We closed the Wellness Wednesday show –for an update on are they or aren’t they still with us. Yes the SBA.

Bryson Patterson has been sharing information about upcoming events---that still show the Small Business Administration at work. Thursday-Wildland Fire Contracting Workshop---as you learn how your small business can support the fire fighters this season.
