Blog-March 29, 2023-10-11—It’s YOUR Agri Business

If you are like me-----we have had a fill of snow----long 31 day months like March-----and with this Ag Show this morning---we are ready for some “””A””””” months----so get ready for April and some things that will happen in August too.

First event coming up in April----Gerri Eide---and her FFA State President Ella Stievater---share the April—Golden Owl Awards-the Agriscience Fair next week and the convention to follow.

The FFA Agriscience Fair is Wednesday April 5th—showcasing FFA members from across South Dakota and their research projects centering on the science and technology of agriculture. It will have 227 FFA members from across the State—and will  include 154 projects. West Central will host. We’ll let Gerri and Ella tell us about it---and mention as well the State FFA Convention APRIL 18th in Brookings.

From there---Brooke Hendrickx ---takes us to the August Sioux Empire Fair. Brooke will get us thinking about it---and help us to understand that kind of preparation goes year around.

While we are at---Candi Briley—South Dakota State Fair---talks about the end of August and the Labor Day Weekend. She’ll give us the calendar—and get us thinking about the progress on DEX and SHED---the planning procession for the fair—and other events on the Horizon. Oh yes—Wheel Jam and SD BBQ Championships.

We’ll check in with Travis Starks---Howalt McDowell—on what they are doing. They are the best father-son team I know—and dad was busy this morning—so as he says a lot of the time—“You’ll have to talk to Trav”.

Brent Baloun---and Rodney Krantz are away with Plains Commerce Bank---but—Nolan Clarke joins us to tell us what they are still PLANNING---and why that planning is a special training they share with Plains at their 9 locations.

Sarah Heinrich---KFGO Farm—has the Morning—Growing Harvest Report----Matt Swenson---Swenson Commodities—owner-partner—has the morning numbers---we’ll see how the grain looks as well as the meat—and the Big Board on Wall Street.

Steve Dick---an old friend joins us with some breaking financial news this morning.

The USDA—has announced that beginning in April it will provide approximately $123 million in additional, automatic financial assistance for qualifying farm loan program borrowers who are facing financial risk, as part of the $3.1 billion to help distressed farm loan borrowers that was provided thru the Inflation Reduction Act.

Steve will talk about that new assistance for distressed borrowers and where to go.

Jaime Wood---Bryson Patterson—and more SBA—are in Aberdeen this morning with a special Networking Conference we’ll get the update.

And we’ll close the show with Cindy Heidelburger Larson---Groundworks SD. What has she been up to ----and how are they reaching the students in 2023? And they have a new name.

Our It’s YOUR Agri Business Show—covers a lot of territory—today most of it is South Dakota—but we know the leaders in neighboring states as well. Agri is our #1 industry-and we do our best to cover it –and even pass the torch to the next generation.

Listen live to the show at 1320, 105.1, 107.9—use the KELO App—Streaming on line –or just ask Alexa. Norm Anderson will have the show available as a podcast by NOON on the day that the show runs live.

Go to the KELO-AM website—look for the March 29, 2023—10-11 show.
