Joshua Jorde is back on a working on Wellness Wednesday---

what can we learn from you ---on this 3rd day of June---

We’re in the thick of summer now and more people are getting out and about with sports, gardening, weeding, yard work, and, with all the rain lately, mowing.

Although in a lot of these cases I’ve been able to help quite a bit at recovering when people accidentally go a little too far with their activities, I’ve had some patients lately, especially farmers, who overdid it a little harder than some.

When it comes to disc bulges and herniations, a lot of patients wonder if chiropractors can still work on those. The short answer is yes, almost always still directly even, and definitely indirectly. In fact, one thing I brought up last week that also led to me decide on this topic for the day was that up until 1934, the medical community hadn’t considered disc bulges or herniations as potential sources of low back

pain, only fractures, while chiropractors had been working on disc issues of the spine since its inception nearly 40 years prior. However, not all of such cases will be able to be fully resolved by chiropractic

alone.

So, even if there’s not a 100% success rate, should one still go to a chiropractor for disc issues and pinched nerves? Absolutely, people should, and for a couple of reasons. First and foremost is that the

success rates for these sorts of issues with chiropractic care are much higher than most surgical success rates much less invasive. Second, it’s also been found that even if a case does ultimately result in needing surgery, patients who have gone to chiropractors first have ended up with both higher surgical success rates and lower surgical complication rates than those who begin care in the medical route.

Part of the reason for this, is it weeds out cases that don’t really need surgery in the first place, but also due to care for the entire spine and surrounding areas, the body can be functioning as ideally as possible

before going into the surgery, so when recovering, everything can compensate more naturally as well as the body can focus energy on recovering only the surgery site and not having to spend energy dealing with other issues.

Another reason is because even when a case does end up being surgical, chiropractors are able to tell if that happens to be the case, though it’s almost impossible to tell immediately based on how and if the condition changes and, except in the case of Medicare, are able to refer for an MRI if needed which can often help in that determination.       Likewise, often surgery will require a period of ‘conservative care’ before going to surgery anyway, and chiropractic can be included as part of that documented care leading up to a surgical intervention.

Unfortunately, although we’re essentially out of the era where doctors and nurses will commonly specifically tell patients to avoid chiropractors, at least for low back pain, most still won’t specifically

recommend chiropractors for it. However, this is partly just because of how the medical system works in general especially with insurance carriers also having providers. Even besides the fact that a doctor is

often incentivized to refer within their own system, just by being within the same system, any doctor is more willing to refer to someone they at least kind of know than someone they don’t, hence why they’ll often refer to an in house physical therapist rather than an outside chiropractor.

So if in that situation and you already have a chiropractor, great, but if you don’t, then just bear in mind it’s a good idea to seek one out even if not specifically referred for chiropractic care. And if you’re looking for one, we have three great ones at Jorde Chiropractic Clinic. We’re located at 37th and Center.

9:56/00---Wellness Wednesday 5—June 2026---------------------------------

Some surprises in the Tuesday elections----we’ll share some of the results—and maybe an interview or two in our 10:00—hour

Our choice for the most valuable in the election campaigns that ended for most late last night---

To me the most surprising---was the long shot running for Governor-------he didn’t look professional as did two office holders—one Dusty Johnson---hoping to trade his congressional seat for the Governor’s Chair---and the Governor—who just wanted to keep his seat.

We are talking about Toby Doeden---it truly wasn’t anything Toby said—but a good women behind any good man—can be the difference. She was on camera—talking to media—people asking questions—and she talked about what a good man her Toby was. She was 100% believable—unlike some of the candidates that gave us the expected.

Doeden would still have to beat the incumbent governor---but he uses the strength of his devoted wife to cut to the heart----it could be interesting when they run on July 28th…

For now our—time is up—thank you for yours…
