We start the 2nd half of our Working Wellness Wednesday with Dr. Joshua Jorde---

Today I figured I’d talk about something close to home, though it also coincides with some of the other topics I’ve had lately when we were still leading up to summer. Recently I started up a mostly makeshift

workout routine. Not trying to be a body builder or even necessarily to lose a lot of weight, though hopefully I’ll manage some of that in addition to increasing strength. And if I wanted to focus on one or the other, I know how to, but right now I’m just keeping it low key so that I’ll actually do it. Which is anold joke in PT, physical training etc.

“Do you know what the best exercise you can recommend to

anybody is? One that they’ll do.”

Anyway, because working out other than cardio, which I’m including much more routinely as well than in the past, isn’t something I’ve really done for about 2 years, I’m definitely feeling the aches after each session. So I’m making sure to get adjusted a bit more regularly than even my usual while my body gets into the swing of things, but I’m also trying to make sure I prevent getting too sore in the first place. One of the main ways I’ve been doing this is by making sure I stretch as well as work out. I’ve also been making sure that, in addition to working out my arms and legs on particular days, I’m also working on my core.

The core is particularly important especially with strength training because a strong core will keep a person more stable when working out which means more efficient workouts and, more importantly, less injuries.

Another reason this particular topic is close to home though isn’t just because it’s about what I’m doing in my own life lately regarding health and the chiropractic care that keeps me in line. Next week on

Thursday, July 2nd at 6pm, Dr. Plueger will be giving a seminar in the office on low back stretches and core strengthening.

Both of these, especially core strengthening, are of course important informational topics for anybody even if not beginning or already in the middle of an ongoing workout routine. Taking just a couple minutes out of the day for stretching and core strengthening can do wonders for overall health, especially for those who aren’t already particularly active and, for those who are active during the day, but only as part of their jobs rather than specifically working out, it’ll be helpful at keeping

everything protected and stable.

For example, I have quite a few patients comment that I get more of a workout as a chiropractor than they’d otherwise think. Mostly, that’s in reference to the fact that we do a lot of manual muscle testing on every single patient in our office. The trouble with that and other jobs that are even more physical is that a lot of times we’re only doing a small handful of physical tasks repeatedly as opposed to mixing it up and working on different muscle groups like when having a workout routine. So by constantly using specific muscle groups because of work while ignoring others, it gets things unbalanced which makes injuries more likely, so again stretches and core strengthening are important to prevent that.

So if you’re in need of a chiropractic adjustment whether it’s because you’re starting a new activity and the body is still getting used to it, you tweak something from either sports or summer gardening and

yardwork, or if you hurt yourself especially at work due to repetitive motions, we have three chiropractors eager to help at Jorde Chiropractic Clinic.

Jordechiropractic.com 2821 S Center Ave.605-335-0880. Our office hours are MWF 9-5:30, TTh 9-12:30, and Sat 9-noon. And regarding muscle work, I’d even specifically recommend Dr. Plueger as he’s made that a bit of a specialty of his already.

Again, if you want to come to his seminar, it’s at the office on July 2nd at 6pm. You can RSVP online at our website under events.

Dr. Joshua Jorde—thanks for joining us again

--just ahead---housing for those who need DakotAbilities help---yes it fits for a working on wellness Wednesday…

9:45/30---Wellness Wednesday----

It’s a Working on Wellness ---and there is a big event with a Chamber Ribbon Cutting tied to DakotAbilities---with the opening of two twin homes coming in July—with the ribbon cutting scheduled for Monday the 29th---

Shelly Johnson has joined us----DakotAbilities is celebrating the opening of 2 new twin homes in Sioux Falls with a Chamber of Commerce Ribbon Cutting on Monday the 29th.

These two new twin homes represent DakotAbilities latest commitment to modern accessibly housing for people with disabilities, with construction of new homes and renovations to existing homes

---why they do it----

  • People with disabilities deserve to be included in, not separated from, our community:
  • Housing for people with disabilities is at the core of our mission to ensure accessibility throughout the community and in their homes.
  • Small 4-person settings create a more family-like atmosphere, helping people live with greater dignity, choice and comfort
  • Quote from a person who will move into the new home. “Get out of the big house and into one that feels like an actual home. That’s what moving out of a 16 person home into one built for 4 people means to someone with disabilities
  • Meeting the needs of our growing city—as our population grows so does the need for our services. As important if not more so, are the evolving expectations people with disabilities have for themselves to have full, interesting, meaningful lives where they are contributing to their communities.
  • The goal is to THRIVE, not simply receive services
  • When we invest in accessible housing, we’re investing in people, families and a stronger community
  • Community based services ae a smart investment of taxpayer dollars, providing a multitude of life-enhancing outcomes for people with disabilities and their families at a fraction of the cost of institutionalized care. The recent DOJ memo questioning the interpretation of the state’s responsibilities to provide community-based services is a dangerous slippery slope back to unjustified segregation and unlawful discrimination of Americans with disabilities, and something to watch and contact your legislators about.

---we’ll get you ready for our 10:00 hour—when our It’s YOUR Agri Business Show readies for a Wellness Wednesday follow..

9:56/00—KELO Commercials

9:57/30---Business 5

We’ll do our Agri Business show in the 10:00 hour—lots to talk about---and we’ll even get a reaction from the Sioux Metro Community---on the mayor’s election that is now in recount in Sioux Falls—with the latest we heard—a 2 vote lead---

Our time is up—thank you for yours----
