Blog---June 23, 2025—10-11—It’s YOUR Agri Business
Our It’s YOUR Agri Business Show is available live at 1320, 105.1, 107.9—use the KELO App—or Streaming on Line.
Agri Business is the number one industry in South Dakota---and today we covered the ground----that brought together SDAG Foundation.org---with Keep Farmers Farming Program---and centered around discussions to help farmers and ranchers develop a workable plan for transitioning their farm or ranch to the next generation of producers.
First time we had spoken to Alan Hoger---and we’ll continue to visit in future shows.
Then we talked with Danita Murray—South Dakota Corn---to see if we would have corn that was knee high by the 4th. Plus we wanted to follow-along what trips she makes—what she hears in those national and regional meetings---and what she learns—particularly in this politics pushed year in more than one direction.
Naturally we ask about the biggest concern corn growers have in 2025—the world markets---and any fears she has for her farm families without the budget busting that has so many family concerns about today, tomorrow and beyond.
Right behind was Jerry Schmitz—South Dakota Soybeans. Our friend Jerry was getting a little work done at Mayo----so we were trickled to have him back on the air. Of course I was wearing my bright red soybean oil shoes----and taking pride in what our Bean and Corn Growers work so hard to do for their families----and future generations.
Brent Baloun---Plains Commerce Bank talked us thru the very essential needs for those that worry about the politics of the day that often have us thinking that the Political players---could do far better if they wanted to work with farmers—businesses---and if they controlled the government’s spending like it was there money they were budgeting in ways that scare so many of us.
Sarah Heinrich—had the Growing Harvest Network ---yes she is a family member from our Midwest Communication in Fargo---she gives us some of the insights rom KFGO----they are good people—and they do care about what we do---and how we are doing. Thank you!!!
Matt Swenson----Swenson Commodities—checked our morning grain, meat, energy, and yes the Big Board on Wall Street. Matt has worked with us for a number of years---and we have grown to expect the mid-morning numbers in our It’s YOUR Agri Business Show.
With all of the activities going on around the Lake’s safety issues on all of South Dakota’s waterways---we continue to work for Lake Madison---residents—who lost a 12 year old in a needless water accident around the 4th of July 2 or is it 3 years ago. The loss of life for Emmy Gorman was a hard loss for the family and all of us. With virtually no water safety standards on the State’s Lakes---family, businesses, and lawmakers pushed for a law that would at least match of Minnesota and other neighbors. The measure passed in this session in 2025---and effective on July 1st---the new regulations go into effect. Training is necessary---to steer on the waterways---you must be older than 12 or 13----and undergo that life or death regulation. We will be following along this week –leading up to July 1st—when the new safety law goes into effect. And yes we will talk more about it leading up to the change.
A couple of businesses-Nyberg Ace Hardware---Hillside Resort—are working with our show and the family---to name food that will help us remember Emmy----and that we don’t ever want this to happen again.
We selected 4 winners of food suggestions in our 2 shows today. We will do the same tomorrow, Wednesday and Friday.
Larry Kotten---is helping us---and we will do more talking this week and leading up to July 4th.
If you want to get a meal at Hillside Resort—for picking a menu item-don’t be afraid of calling in during the 9-10 show on Tuesday.
Questions for me—feel free to call/text at 605-728-2455 (BILL) or email me at bill.zortman@mwcradio.com. Norm Anderson will post the show as a podcast—so you can go back and listen to the discussions in the 10-11 Monday Show.
