1 st Baptist Church – SOLD! ; We went thru the Warsh this week ; Get out and vote Tuesday

Jodi had a great CEO Summit this week. I had to cut out for a part of it to go attend the closing of 1 st Baptist Church

Yes, the iconic church building across from Sanfords Medical Building 3, at 22nd and Covell, sold to another church this week. That has been my church from my first day in Sioux Falls as a college student. As a Baptist kid from Nebraska, growing up, 1st Baptist was very well known with Pastor Roger Fredrickson . We got married in that church, and early in my real estate career, they tabbed me to be on a committee thinking about moving. This was in the late 80’s. At that time, instead of moving, we added an addition. That kept people quiet for a few years.

Then for probably 5 different cycles after, about every 3-5 years, another initiative got going again to move. I’ve been on every committee since. In one of those committees, we decided instead of a move, lets start a new church, so that was the beginning of ‘The Point’ They are now located on N. Kiwanis in the former Sertoma Bingo Hall.

  Again and again the topic kept coming up. We finally decided to take the next step of faith and buy land. A lady from our church had 20 acres at 95 th & Louise so she gave us a nice deal so we bought that as our next home whenever that was. Then came Covid and all that followed; with interest rates going crazy, construction and labor costs going crazy,..so we tabled the project until things settled down.

    We finally decided it was time so we formally put it on the market and sold it to…not Sanford as what everybody thought. No, we sold to another church, Emmaus Road who had been operating at Sioux Falls Christian for 10+ years.

    They got tired of setting up and tearing down every week just to do church so the 1st Baptist facility was a great fit and we are excited for us..for them…just excited.

Canaries start a 6-game road trip tonight (Friday) with 3 weekend games in the Dallas area against the Cleburne Railroaders, then head to Kansas City to face the Monarchs on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

They are back home for 6 straight games starting a week from today (Friday).

Birds went 3-3 on their 6-game homestand that ended Wednesday night with a series-clinching win over arch rival Sioux City. 

That was "Faith & Family Night," which brought out several large church groups from around the region (SD, Minnesota, Iowa)... it was our biggest crowd of the year so far.

Birds are holding things together with their two biggest sluggers injured for a while!

Despite that, team is one of the top 4 offenses in the league — top 4 in every major category --- runs scored, hits, doubles, triples, RBI...

Record is 17-15... 5th best out of 12 in the league.
