(605)-484-4572 Mike Richardson – Programing Director of Dacotah Territory International Visitor Program – Rapid City, South Dakota.

  •    How did your organization get its name? Our founding Board combine “Dacotah” to recognize the Native American history of our region, with “Territory” to recognize our settler history.  The “International Visitor Program” came from what our National Organization was called at the time.
  • What services does your organization provide? We set up the transportation, housing, and appointments with the area of interest for the group coming in.  In some cases, we are directly contacted to do the program, others we send in proposals on upcoming projects and compete with other areas in the U.S.
  • Where do you provide your services? All of SD, the Northeast section of Wyoming, and by special request of the Congressional Office of International Leadership in North Dakota.
  • What makes your services so special vs. the services that your competitors provide? Our competition comes from other organizations outside our state to host the delegations.  The people of SD and ND are what makes our programs special.
  • How did your organization get started? I was contacted by a contract agency in DC to help on a special program in the Black Hills.  After a couple of years, I asked how I could get involved in more programs and areas of interest.  That led to forming a Board of Directors and applying for recognition from
DC for our organization to provide programs in SD.
  • How old is your organization? 27 years old.
  • Are you a “one man shop”? Yes and no.  I am the only part-time employee at this time.  We contract for transportation, motels, and other part-time help as needed.
  •    Do you have volunteers in Sioux Falls and Rapid City? Sioux Falls, Rapid City, Pierre, Pine Ridge, Gillette Wyoming, and Bismarck ND.
  • Is your organization growing?  And if so, why? At this time, we are recovering from the Covid pandemic over the last 2 years.  All programs were cancelled or at least postponed during that time.  We have now had 3 in person programs in 2022. What grows are the volunteers in various areas of the
regions and various areas of interest.
  • What countries do you work with? All counties recognized by the U.S. State Department and the U.S. Congress.

Still to come----Mr. Tree---Alla----and Laura Edwards---
