Sioux Falls police are investigating a spam report after a woman reported she was being scammed via social media.
According to police, a 73-year-old woman reported that she commented on a TikTok account that she was following when someone, claiming to be the content creator for the account, reached out to her, asking if she was interested in investing in cryptocurrency.
Over the last year, the victim sent wire transfers totaling approximately $200,000 to the person she was conversing with on TikTok.
She was later asked if she wanted to invest in a credit-card system, where she took out a home-equity loan and sent another wire transfer of $197,000 to the scammer.
She realized she had been scammed when she made calls checking the status of the account, only to find the account had $0.
The victim lost a total of $397,000 in this case.
Police are continuing to investigate the case.
Thanks for all you do with the BBB

what people are doing to beat the heat in the outdoors! Fishing and camping are the summertime mainstays, but fall hunting season is also on the minds of hunters already, so I’ll talk about the reasons why. Also starting to see some pheasant chicks on the ground!

Brandon Hanson----Downtown Sioux Falls---
We've got another packed weekend ahead in Downtown Sioux Falls, and my top picks this week really showcase the variety of experiences happening across the core.
First, a reminder that AMPT Downtown is officially back for the summer, and we're incredibly grateful to Xcel Energy for helping make it happen.
AMPT stands for Art, Music, and Performance Theatre, and it's one of those programs that quietly transforms Downtown throughout the summer months. Every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, you'll find free live music and performances filling our public spaces. On Friday, AMPT takes place from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in The Steel District, and on Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Phillips Avenue Plaza. If you're grabbing lunch downtown, there's a good chance you'll stumble across live entertainment.
Friday night brings one of the most exciting concerts we've hosted this summer.
Grace Kelly takes the stage at Levitt at the Falls at 7 p.m.
And yes, that's really her name. Grace Kelly is a nationally recognized saxophonist, vocalist, songwriter, and composer who has performed alongside some of the biggest names in jazz. She's played Carnegie Hall, the Hollywood Bowl, and stages around the world. The fact that you can see an artist of that caliber for free in Downtown Sioux Falls is pretty remarkable. If you're looking for a can't-miss event this weekend, this is near the top of the list.
Also Friday evening, The Premiere Playhouse continues its run of Legally Blonde, bringing one of Broadway's most fun and energetic productions to Downtown.
Saturday morning, Downtown will welcome thousands of people for the Sioux Falls Pride Parade.
The parade returns to Phillips Avenue beginning at 9 a.m., bringing colorful floats, community organizations, local businesses, performers, and spectators together for one of the largest annual gatherings in Downtown Sioux Falls. Phillips Avenue will be closed during the event, and the energy throughout Downtown is always incredible. Whether you're participating or simply watching, it's a great example of how public spaces bring people together.
Following the parade, head over to Jacobson Plaza for the Sioux Falls Stroll Club Downtown Stroll.
This is a fun partnership between Downtown Sioux Falls and the Stroll Club that encourages families, parents, kids, and anyone looking for a little fresh air to explore Downtown on foot. Jacobson Plaza has quickly become one of the most popular gathering spaces in the city, and this event is a great excuse to experience it while discovering everything happening around it.
Saturday evening, Levitt at the Falls is back with another free concert featuring Britnee Kellogg, while Legally Blonde continues its weekend performances at The Premiere Playhouse.
The bigger story right now is that summer has officially arrived Downtown. Free concerts, live music on lunch breaks, public spaces full of activity, packed patios, community celebrations, and events nearly every day of the week.
For the full calendar and details on everything happening Downtown, visit dtsf.com/events. We hope to see you downtown this weekend.
