Blog-June 14, 2022—10-11—SD Farmers Union Monthly Show
Each month on the 2nd Tuesday of the month---10-11—we pick up the Green Colors for South Dakota Farmers Union.
Today—a good story---that claimed some national and international headlines---with Megan Kingsbury—President and CEO of Kingsbury and Associates that announced their intentions to build a Beef and Bison Packing plant with NEXT Generation duds.
It will be in Rapid City---and their will be one in one of my favorite towns in South Carolina---Greenville.
Megan will answer our questions—draw some pictures—and let us understand that she is a 5th Generation South Dakota Cattle Producer that with 8000 head to be processed a day –could make quite the dent with the 4 packers getting the discredit in 2022 for upping prices at the counter---while leaving cattle feeders shorted.
We’ll hear about the Western South Dakota and Western Legacy part that is really her home----we’ll hear how Dale Bednarek—Farmers Union Industries and Farmers Union Enterprises are very happy and wanted to form this partnership showing it is a great opportunity to give back to the family farmers.
In addition---there will be a plan in place to capture the methane gas from the facility and repurpose it as energy necessary to operate a facility of this caliber---no odor—no cattle fed outside—cattle will be shipped in and harvested in as efficient and humane manner as possible.
The PREFERRED Site is the Rapid City Industrial Park—with a plan to recycle a majority of the water used at the facility and the work is still going on for an efficient transportation method.
We look forward to the visit with Megan Kingsbury –for the beef plant of the future.
Mitch Richtor—SD Farmers Union Legislative voice will talk to us about the defeat of Amendment C---as well as the Governor’s Ag Summit and Medicaid Expansion. The Ag Summit is set for June 22-23 on the SDSU Campus and is free and open to the public—though registration is required.
Cindy Zenk---SD Soil Health Coalition will talk to us about Field Days in South Dakota-and why this is so very important.
South Dakota Farmers Union Farm Family of the month----three brothers—Larry-Tom-Don Baruth---worked together for years—retired together---we’ll find out how they did all they did---and why it is so important to be able to do that with FAMILY in 2020 or 2022.
The price of gas got you down—one of the best experts I visit with is Jim Seurer—Glacial Lakes in Watertown. We’ll talk about what E product you can use---how you can use it---how much you can save----and what the testing by the University of Nebraska and Glacial Lakes associates as well –tell us about our engines---and where we are. Blending could be an important way—and you could blend an E10 with an E-30—or E-55 or you call it.
With our prices at unheard of levels—this conversation could save you some money and keep you on the road. He’ll even share an on-line map you can use to find E Products.
Candi Briley---SD State Fair—gives us a little update on what to expect---for the weeks leading up to the 2022 Fair. Lots to talk about and lots to look forward to.
We’ll close the show with SD State Climatologist-Laura Edwards. They had quite the storm in the Aberdeen area ---and other parts of South Dakota over night. We’ll talk about that---what’s ahead---and why we have to keep our heads in the game—regardless of the weather.
Our South Dakota Farmers Union show is special----brings together story lines that affect people in agriculture and those that count on agriculture. Yes all ages—all walks of life—with the understanding we are ALL IN THIS TOGETHER.
