Blog—June 13, 2025—9-10—It’s YOUR Business
Our It’s YOUR Business Friday 9-10 Show gives our audience quite the cross-section of what is going on in several different arenas. Today was no exception---and we even went a little further in working several angles—and items of widespread worldly interest.
There is Jodi Schwan---Sioux Falls Business---among the points
Empire Mall with lots of new store announcementsTik Tok---and South Dakota go together? They could more and more in the futureFather’s Day—a couple of dads who built a brand around becoming fathers---LATER in LIFE
Just a sampling of what she does every week---and quite frankly nobody does it BETTER!!
Jessie Schmidt—BBB of South Dakota. I got to surprise Jessie with a taped segment that Minnehaha Sheriff Mike Milstead did with me on Wednesday. It started with my wife Carolyn who had received a notification that she would lose her driver’s license if she didn’t pay a fine within a short period of time. It was something that they claimed had happened and that we owed—and pay immediately or face the consequences.
I suggested Carolyn go to the Courthouse—she did and was told by the greeting staff that don’t do anything to respond to them---if you do you’ll be scammed. I had Sheriff Mike Milstead call me back and we talked about Carolyn and then he shared he was just scammed this week ---either respond and pay-up or be subject to jail or losing your license. The Sheriff was quick to point out they are getting a lot of those inquiries—and he remarked that he had heard BBB Jessie and I talking about this recently. He thought we needed to keep sharing—and perhaps even the Sheriff can tell us they kind of things his office is hearing. We talked to so-long that Jessie and I will take up job scams next Friday.
Teri Schmidt---talked with us about Downtown Sioux Falls activities—including a National Jump Rope Championship coming to our town. As always she encourages us to welcome and make comfortable those visiting our town. If you wonder why we are growing and we get quite the welcoming reputation—is Teri—and team—that makes such a difference.
Kip Rounds—South Dakota Game Fish and Parks helped us start our talks for this Friday---with how they were going to be training people on water safety this Saturday. Kip has been helping us with how Lake Madison is moving forward what happened to a 12 year old girl—2 years ago around the 4 of July she was hit by a Jet Ski---having fallen off---and later died. Now as a result of leaders, lawmakers and businesses seeing that a new State Law was passed effective July 1st—South Dakota’s water safety laws will mirror highway safety laws. Much of the 10 show today---and thru this week has dealt with the change—what was done---and we even heard from the mother and father who lost their daughter. I have been surprised by all the interest that has been created. And we’ll continue visiting with businesses—families—and make sure we are doing all we can to explain that the law changes July 1st—and will be in effect for the next 4th of July Holiday on that Friday.
From Downtown Sioux Falls—Brandon Hanson—as only he can do took us thru all the events scheduled this weekend from the Old Courthouse Museum, Club David, Plums Cooking Company, State Theatre, Levitt at the Falls and even Big Sioux Burger.
Don’t forget on July 4th—they are closing a block of Phillips Avenue for Non-profits in Motion. It’s all about turning streets into-people centered spaces with activities, music and movement.
Cat Clarke—shared with us his take on the US Open---and lots of special events like father-son, father, daughter tournaments this Sunday. A lot of big local events and we know that Cat will make sure it all comes together in a positive spirit.
Diana Patterson—Sanford Career Opportunities-pushed Sanford Foundation and how they are looking for those that can make a difference.
