Blog----July 28, 2025—10-11—It’s YOUR Agri Business

Our It’s Your Agri Business Show salutes the #1 Industry in South Dakota ---Agriculture-----and we do it with this show virtually each day we do the Business show in the 9:00 hour and the Agri Business show in the 10:00 hour.

In the show---Darren Hefty---Ag PHD---joined us to promote his big event that will be held on July 31st---in the Home place in Baltic. They expect 10,000----Darren has been working with us with our Ag Show for a long time---and we always joke he uses our show as a warm up for the Show he does in the afternoon on Sirius Radio---2:00 and he is seen and heard world-wide.

This week they will be talking about their big event---on his show as well as ours. We want people to better understand agriculture---

Matt Meritt—Poet was to join us in this show—so with Matt away on a show---Jessie Fonkert and Andy Lindsey--- explained all (or at least some) of what Poet is doing..

They are ranked as the #15 container exporter in the US. They’re ahead of Walmart, Tyson Foods, and DuPont. They are major exporter and rapidly rising on the list every year.

POET ships to 25 countries internationally---in 2022—POET acquired the POET Terminal---in Savannah Georgia—and it dramatically improved their shipping capabilities. They’re really looking forward to more growth in international markets in 2025.

We follow along---tell the stories—and POET is right there knowing the value of us and them working together.

Brent Baloun---Plains Commerce Bank---talked with us this morning about the planning they do. Certainly those asking and partnering are Businesses, Farmers, families---older and younger couples---

The Planners talk to us each Monday and Wednesday during the show and we learn-and want our audience to learn as well.

Sarah Heinrich---our Growing Harvest Network voice from KFGO in Fargo---yes our Midwest Communication Sister Station—gives us a couple of minutes of farm update. She’s well organized, smart---and shares with us.

Matt Swenson—provided us with the first look at the week’s mid-morning numbers for corn and beans—the livestock—and yes the big Board on Wall Street. We appreciate Matt and team with Swenson Commodities—keeping score—and telling our audience what the score is each morning.

The Rock Report—yes Rock Nelson included Marcella Hurley—State Program Director of South Dakota’s APEX Accelerator Program. She  is the state specialist in researching what government contract opportunities currently exist for South Dakota Businesses within cities, counties, states and our US government throughout our country and beyond.

As these businesses investigate and take part in her program, there will be opportunities for them to grow and expand with the increased production of their products or services. Should the business be located in a “Hub Zones” –they will have better opportunities to have a chance at winning some of the government contracts.

We closed the show with John Ball---Mr. Tree---he gave us a look at the storms we have had—and what to expect. Iowa State Climatologist Justin Glisin –talked us thru the storms we had in South Dakota, Iowa, and Minnesota over night---and De Rechio in the upper Mid-west is what he called it—even though I’m sure I don’t spell it right.

Listen live to our show at 1320, 105.1, 107.9—use the KELO App, streaming on line or just ask Alexa. Norm Anderson posts the show as a PODCAST. My job is to schedule the guests—prepare the guest and me to talk, and write the blog. Questions for me—feel free to call/text at 605-728-BILL (2455) or email me at bill.zortman@mwcradio.com.
