Blog---July 23, 2025—9-10—Working on Wellness Wednesday
Yes a Working on WELLNESS Wednesday---nice people—nice story lines---and our audience should have learned a lot in this hour.
Joe Kippley—Sioux Falls Health Director and his enforcer Jamie Rogenbauer—gave us the update on nature versus humans. The mosquito stress has hit---and we had our first disease report of the 2025 season.
It gave us the opportunity to talk about how to control the skitters, how to dress in white not black—and why we need to protect ourselves—those older---those younger than we are for the next month or so of the summer season.
Our hope is to keep score with our Health Department and provide any information that can help our listeners, our family and visitors enjoy the great outdoors—but being sure that you where the protectants and if you do get a bite ---that you pay attention to it—and don’t take it for granted.
Past the middle of July---and we are seeing a minimum of the bites as we hit the almost the 60% days of summers behind us.
We were able to located Sue Thesenga---who heads the Minnesota-Dakotas Red Cross. There is always a shortage of blood—and we try to work with the Red Cross----when there are drives ahead---today—free A1C testing on successful donations in August $15 e-gift card for coming to give August 1st to 28th. But even a strong blood supply can experience a sudden drop-potentially impacting the availability of lifesaving blood that could help new mothers, burn and trauma patients, and those facing cancer. Help safeguard patient care by booking a time to give blood. Visit RedCrossBlood.org, call1-800-RED CROSS use the Red Cross-Blood Donor App.
You can download the American Red Cross Blood Donor App, visit RedCrossBlood.org or call 1-800-Red Cross or enable the Blood Donor Skill on any Alexa device.
Another big concern we have during the summer months---is stress so much that suicide or harming yourself can come into play.
Sadie Swier---has an event that is coming up the first week in August and she joined us to share a big event coming to town. It is the South Dakota Center for Enterprise Opportunity East Women’s Business Center announced local business owner speakers for the 4th Annual Women’s Visionary Summit: KNOW YOUR WORTH.
