Blog-July 11, 2023—10-11—SD Farmers Union Show

Very interesting show----South Dakota Farmers Union –monthly show. Overshadowing the show----the Pipeline eminent domain-----and where this is going.

Doug Sombke---SD Farmers Union President---was in studio----and we talked about the serious disagreements about pipeline----what should happen and really what to expect.

In addition---Rob Larew—National Farmers Union President joined us from DC—talking about the pipeline as well as the Farm Bill.

President Larew is a frequent guest on the Monthly Farmers Union Show---and has helped us visit Farmers Union Convention in San Francisco---as well as Fly-in in Washington DC.

Luke Reindl ---works with me putting the show on the air---and today---there was enough content to have been 90 minutes instead of 60 minutes.

Among the Guests—Craig Schaunaman---talking legislative matters---pipeline---and where the pipeline and eminent domain---with Summit Carbon Solutions pipeline. Still lots to be accomplished—but there are different directions in every state at this point---and our job will continue to be to follow the scenarios and put some semblance of order to it.

The show included work being done by John Beranek—there is an upcoming Young Producers Event –giving education on how to effectively communicate and advocate on Ag Topics. Mr. Beranek has agreed to bring one of the young advocates to the South Dakota State Fair---when we do our Fair and Farmers Union show in August. We’ll have a chance to see how they will handle working with the media.

The Farm Family of the month—Wade and Christi Christensen---of Wessington Springs. Wade was at a sales barn today—one of his---and we talked about how their family has enjoyed making a difference in South Dakota—and in Wessington Springs. Good family—good passing of the torch and we were happy to talk with them.

We talked with Samantha Olson---an Education Specialist for SDFU. The SDFU State Junior Camp will be one of the biggest in years with 100 kids---Samantha does a good job with it---and it does pass the torch.

We visited with Jayda Walton----“A Rising Star” with kids and camps. She has convinced the leadership with South Dakota Farmers Union –that she is a difference maker. She was one of two of the young stars—that I had the chance to travel with to the National Farmers Union Convention in San Francisco. The Mitchell graduate—now headed to SDSU will be one to keep an eye on for tomorrow.

Darren Hefty---AG PHD---known for all he does out of Baltic—on Sirius 147 Radio—nationwide---is hosting an event for hundreds---at the end of the month. He and his brother push for ag interests---and getting education that will keep them in South Dakota Ag Circles.

We closed the show with Laura Edwards—SD State Climatologist. She was sharing the rain picture---her trip to Beresford for a special day---- for awards today----and just what she sees in the days ahead for moisture.

Our SD Farmers Union Show—does bring by far-the largest collection of guests together statewide—to talk agriculture. Generally on the 2nd Tuesday of the month—at 10-11---August will be in Huron for the State Fair.

Listen live to the show at 1320, 105.1, 107.9---use the KELO App—streaming on line or just ask Alexa.

Norm Anderson will have the show available as a PODCAST—generally by noon on the day that the show runs live.
