Blog-February 9, 2021—10-11—SD Farmers Union—It/s YOUR Business
Once a month ---in our 10-11 hour –on the 2nd Tuesday---we are pleased to welcome the South Dakota Farmers Union –for an hour of Farm Information---past, present, and hopefully future.
February with the South Dakota Legislature in the 2nd half of their session—and Governor Noem discussing dollars and cents later today in a news conference, SDFU’s Mitch Richter will share his take on what’s important in agriculture.
From Washington DC---we go one on one with Senator John Thune and Senator Mike Rounds. All farm issues----not the usual political path we will hear in other sources.
Doug Sombke—long time President of the South Dakota Farmers Union co-hosts the show with me. And we will talk to a number of guests about specifics in DC involving ethanol, beef sales----PPP program, the former Iowa Governor to be Ag Secretary, climate concerns and even below zero weather with our South Dakota State Climatologist Laura Edwards.
For Senator Thune---he will explain his time interviewing and discussing how it is with Tom Vilsack---destined to be Ag Secretary again. Is it the same old Vilsack that the GOP complained about during the Obama years? What about important legislation to advance Bio Fuels Technology, and who gets the PPP funds.
Mike Strantz—works Government Relations with National Farmers Union—we’ll discuss the Biden Cabinet Appointees, Senate Hearings and Climate concerns and carbon storage programs (IMSET)
From Pierre Mitch Richter can share the Ag discussions with the endangered species---farmers in the legislature and even finding more than a handful or so of Democrats.
Senator Mike Rounds---yes like Vilsack—a former Governor---what is he hearing from those constituents in South Dakota—with emphasis on Ag---where we are headed---plus some of the issues that are interfering with dollars and cents----and just getting the job done in DC during the COVID 19 crisis that we would like to forget but can’t.
Doug Durante will join us to talk clean fuels development coalition----and fears that we should have in agriculture with the push not for energy driven vehicles but rather electric vehicles that could have a very serious impact on agriculture.
Jaime Wood---Director SBA of South Dakota---will share the money that is available to those in South Dakota. Our principle conversation will be centered around small family farmers and ranchers. Some farmers are getting money---others are not. Jaime can explain what she is answering, the webinars that are available statewide---and why a farmer on one side of the fence gets payments while those on the other side do not.
What about upcoming events----on this day a 1PM Zoom for Egg Producers—with Mike Pearson sharing his information. The National Farmers Union Convention is upcoming—and yes it to will be different this year---it will be virtual in March. President Sombke will help us understand even being virtual—what this is seriously important.
Laura Edwards is our South Dakota State Climatologist. As we do this show on February 9th we are in the throws of old man winter sharing a rash of below zero weather---more expected thru the end of the week ---even as far as Valentine’s Day.
Our South Dakota Farmers Union show---is planned with the help of President Sombke—Luke Reindl---South Dakota Farmers Union and Karla Hofhenke.
It is my pleasure to work with them---help hog tie the guests---and get the show ready for an hour of honest Farmers Union information.
