Blog----February 26, 2025-9-10---Working on Wellness Wednesday

Rather historic---and interesting day for Working on Wellness Wednesday.

We had 2---Avera Segment---very helpful to people across the spectrum

Chiropractor who came into our studio for the first time 10 years ago today was back for the last official time as a Pioneer Chiropractor.

And we continued our Pizza Polling in both this hour and the 10:00.

Lacey McCormack---PHD –Director of Rural Research and Research Scientist---first out of the gate for our Wellness Show—47-38.

We learned about a NEW PILOT Project ---we learned what it meant—they learned by doing a Community Need Assessment.

Their partners—yes some food partners---helped address a serious issue to many—FOOD INSECURITIES.

We learned where the food PANTRIES are located and who can access them.

The survey was put together by professionals---as they talked to those who felt the should be included and how to do it.

How they put it together—we just touched the screen with—but learning there is opportunities---and how to get in line if you think you qualify---was an important step we wanted to lead with this morning---and we hope more and more will learn about what they need to do.

Times can be tough—and from the singing and dancing on the national stage right now ---we don’t know what to expect—today, tomorrow and beyond.

However working with Avera—and with The Director of Rural Research –as a Research Scientist made us believe—and rightly SO---there is help---if you need the help you can ask questions –and you can feel comfortable with Lacey McCormack.

Second stop----and yes with Avera---took us from Avera to the Wagner Community Memorial Hospital.

We had two unforgettable guests---Jyoti Angal—Director of Clinical Research for the Average Research Institute---and by phone—Ti Anna Smith—Chief Medical Officer for Wagner Community Hospital.

We learned what the March Summit is---what the hopes are—and why the work is so important.

The 2025 Maternal American Indian Rural Community Health March Summit will take place on March 4th---yes next Tuesday---followed by a half day workshop on the 5th at the Sioux  Falls Convention Center and Arena.

We learned that the annual summit is organized by the Avera Research Institute’s March Center of Excellence, which is a platform for researchers, tribal nations, rural communities and key stakeholders to work toward improving material health and achieving maternal health equity.

On the Summit it features maternal health leaders and trough presentations, activities and an interactive workshop—the aim is to raise awareness, share knowledge, and promote positive change in maternal health.

The 2nd focus is to work and impact that which has already been done to improve maternal outcomes across South Dakota in our critical access hospitals.

Ti Anna is speaking to the training and investments made at the Wagner Community Hospital that have directly impacted maternal health outcomes in the communities they serve.

It is the 2nd year---last year Eagle Butte and in Pierre. They are already looking at the third year. We will follow along next week for additional updates.

Starting the 2nd half of the show---Dr. Max Reineke –joined us on his 10th anniversary of coming on the It’s YOUR Business Show—which is of course –a Working on Wellness Wednesday.

He is retiring –and is his wife—and they are proud about it. Were we taking a chance with a Chiropractor on Wellness Show in South Dakota? I didn’t think so—and guess what—Dr. Max made it work and we were happy to be the vehicle that kept informational---enjoyable---and educational.

We played the game too—the S word that I couldn’t pronounce---and didn’t---(subluxation) but it gave those at home a chance to understand what a Dr. Max could do for them. They didn’t have to live in Sioux Falls—they could be from a small community or could be visiting family.

As I learned the spine related nerve deficit is called vertebral subluxation complex or VSC.

We learned that the VSC starts with an injury to the back of neck. The stiffness following an injury can compromise peripheral nerves and also create central nervous system problems due to lack of signaling of vertebral ligaments making up the injured segment.

Reinecke Chiropractic is now Jorde Chiropractic—and they use function testing called applied kinesiology.

We talked a little about in the early part of the decade—some didn’t believe a chiropractor was a DOCTOR---but they learned how talented a Chiropractor can be. I enjoyed helping do that.

We had a chance to introduce another one of Pizza Partners competing just like the burgers and pork dishes have done. We talked to Jenny from Valentino’s today---and we will continue to talk with the dozen thru our show Friday---when we turn the calendar to March---and the 2025 event will be over. Those Restaurants –think it has been fun and perhaps instead of the 28 days in February in 2025—they could pick March that would have 31 days.

Our Working ON Wellness show—a part of It’s YOUR Business---works with merchants helping our listeners—learn and be more educated when it comes to their health care.

Norm Anderson---posts the show as a PODCAST on our KELO-AM Website---my job is to schedule the guests—plan the content with the guest---interview—and then write the Blog—that reviews it all.
