How to recognize fake texts, emails, and missed delivery notices. Why package theft and delivery scams spike during busy shopping seasons.Smart strategies to keep your deliveries safe and secure.
Delivery scams and theft are particularly prevalent during the holidays when more packages are shipped, but they can happen year-round. Scammers are hoping shoppers are busy or distracted and will act without thinking.
Popular delivery scams
These scams arrive as emails or texts that look like official notices from USPS, UPS, FedEx, or other delivery services. They often contain a “tracking link” or claim that the carrier is having difficulty delivering your package. Clicking the link takes you to a fake site that asks for personal information or downloads malware onto your device.
One person shared on BBB Scam Tracker, "i received text message, stating FedEx Ground has a pkg for me waiting for signature: 797309 +51-974358250 FedEx® Ground Reschedule Your Shipment Delivery We attempted to deliver your FedEx package on September 6, but we were unable to reach you. A personal signature is necessary for the delivery to be completed. Please follow the instructions to schedule a suitable delivery time. Reschedule Now: https://www.fedex.com@vipiv.click/us Options Include: ·Selecting a new delivery date/time Just reply with 'Y', then close and reopen the message to make the link work. If that doesn’t do it, copy the link and paste it straight into browser. Important Notice: ·Your package is secured at our local facility and will be held until September 9 ·If not rescheduled by this date, your shipment will be returned to the sender. ·Ensure your contact information is current for delivery updates via FedEx My Choice®. Thank you for trusting FedEx® Ground. We’re committed to delivering your shipment on time and in good condition."
Scammers place a note on your door that claims they are having challenges delivering a package to you. They ask you to call a phone number to reschedule your delivery, but it's a ruse to get your personal information.
In a recent BBB Scam Tracker report, one message stated, left a notice on my door saying i had a check that needed to be delivered that i needed to call them so o could pay for the delivery charges and the check would be hand delivered"
Some victims report being told their package is being held at an airport, warehouse, or distribution center until they pay a fee.
A scam report submitted to BBB Scam Tracker outlines how the person lost $180: "They are a supposed shipping company. They stated that my package was on hold at the airport and asked me to zelle money then again something happened and I had to zelle money again."
These messages typically claim your package can’t be delivered due to an incomplete address. They urge you to click a link to “confirm” your information.
One consumer shared to BBB Scam Tracker, "eceived a fake text claiming it was UPS about a package delivery. The text said: [UPS] Tracking Number... Our driver can't find your address, and your package is still pending. And our driver will redeliver tomorrow. Please provide your complete address at [URL} to schedule redelivery."
A different delivery scam includes a text stating, "The USPS package has arrived at the warehouse and cannot be delivered due to incomplete address information. Please confirm your address in the link: [url] (Please reply to 1, then exit the SMS, open the SMS activation link again, or copy the link to a Safari browser and open it). The US Postal team wishes you a wonderful day."
Not all delivery scams happen online. Other delivery-related issues shoppers face involve package theft. Many consumers have had their packages stolen before they arrive home from work. Thieves snatch packages from doorsteps or lobbies of apartment or condo complexes. Criminals even follow delivery and postal trucks. When the truck leaves, the crooks move in and grab the parcels.

Welcome back to It’s YOUR Business----we start this side as we do some Friday’s with an old Friend---Dr. Joshua Jorde
The snow is on the ground and with these temperatures; it’s going to stick around for a while. Not to mention we’ll probably get more and more as the season carries on. Last week we talked about clearing away that snow with brushes and shovels and snow blowers (oh my!) Unfortunately, I’ve already been hearing about a number of car accidents.
What should someone do if they’ve been in an accident, though? Obviously if there’s damage to the vehicle that needs to be repaired, one should use their insurance (since that’s literally what it’s there for) to get their vehicle repaired. It’s the same when your body is injured by an accident as well. But while it’s generally easy to tell if the car has been damaged, how to you tell if your body has been?
Should you go by feel alone, or get things it checked out? And if getting things checked out, what can you expect in regards to the initial exam and also treatment?
Basically, if you’ve been involved in any car accident that you plan to submit to insurance at all, you should be getting checked out as well, especially around this time of year. Now, obviously if you have pain that you didn’t before, that’s a clear sign you need to get looked at. However, sometimes in the body, there’s issue that are a bit deeper and from the accident that should be taken care of now rather than later when they may be too far removed from the accident for insurance to take accountability for it.
It’s also good to get those issues treated sooner rather than later, because they’ll also usually recover pretty quickly since generally speaking a more severe problem needing a lot of work is likely to be
symptomatic right away. Finally, even if genuinely doing fine after the accident physically, sometimes that needs to be proven.
Last year was the first time I brought this up on the radio after Dr. Reinecke told me about the consideration. In addition to really bad accidents this time of year, there’s also plenty of small ones where someone thinks they’re slowing down gradually enough but then just skid a little ways and hit the car in front of them or they try taking a turn just a little sharper than the snow on the ground allows and fishtail a bit into another, hopefully stationary, vehicle.
While there’s damage to one or both vehicles and so a claim is made, the people feel fine and don’t get examined and carry on like normal. However, if they get into a worse accident a week or two later and clearly are injured during it, insurance companies will know that there was a claim not long before and are likely to deny responsibility for the injury and thus not pay out.
Or they may claim, and perhaps rightly so, that there was indeed some underlying issue as a result of the first accident and so claim only partial responsibility for the second.
It’s far better to get examined by a doctor after an accident and be given a clean bill of health than to risk there being any doubt in a circumstance like that.
But what does an exam look like, at least at a chiropractic office, after an accident or other personal injury case? It starts with standard new patient paperwork (unless an existing patient already) as well as some getting detailed information on the specific accident. After that, at our clinic, we may determine from there if x-rays are necessary or proceed to an orthopedic and neuromusculoskeletal exam to help determine what exactly is going on internally as well as the severity. Depending on the results, x-rays may instead happen at that point if anything a bit surprising comes up.
Finally, assuming there’s no red flags from the exam and/or imaging, will be the chiropractic exam and treatment, potentially including
ancillary therapies such as ARP, cold laser, ultrasound, etc.
So if you’ve been in a car accident and need to get checked out; if you slip or fall on the ice; or really if any other ache, pain, or health issue has you wanting to come in, we’ve got three doctors ready to look
after you. My own schedule is often full or close to it, but I’m still sometimes able to take on new patients, but the other two doctors certainly can, especially our newest doctor, Dr. Curtis Plueger.
He’s new to our office, but he’s not completely fresh into the field, and he comes with a significant background in rehab and therapy.
You can find us all at Jorde Chiropractic Clinic 2821 S. Center Ave. Call us at 6053350880 or visit us online at jordechiropractic.com. Our office hours are MWF 9-530, TTh 9- 1230, and Saturday 9-12.

What’s up for Downtown Sioux Falls this weekend---Brandon Hanson is here to tell us---
As usual, Downtown Sioux Falls is absolutely full of activity and more specifically is in full holiday mode — this means lights, music, art, and family fun at every turn. Whether you’re shopping, exploring, or getting into the Christmas spirit, downtown is the place to be.
First up this weekend, and all month, the First Interstate Bank Downtown Gives Coupon Book. These coupon books have been flying off the shelves, and once they’re gone — they’re gone! For just $15, you’ll get exclusive deals at dozens of downtown shops, restaurants, and salons, and every dollar goes right back into the community through a local nonprofit. You can pick yours up at participating businesses which are listed on DTSF.com — but don’t wait, supplies are limited!
Friday kicks off with Flower & Flame performing live at the Old Courthouse Museum Winter Concert Series from noon to 1. It’s a free concert in one of downtown’s most historic spaces — a great way to add a little music to your lunch hour.
From there, head to the Washington Pavilion for the Art Collective — open from 1 to 8 PM. Seventy local artists will be showcasing their work, from paintings and sculpture to jewelry and photography. It’s an amazing chance to support Sioux Falls’ creative community and find one-of-a-kind gifts.
As night falls, downtown lights up. Stop by Rehfeld’s Modern from 6 to 8 PM for Cumulate, a new exhibit featuring local artists Travis Hinton and Linn Skoglund Thygeson. And just down the street, the First Friday Featured Artists event at Serendipity Studio runs from 5 to 8 — another great chance to meet local creators and see something new.
Saturday is packed with family fun. Start the day with the Atrium Makers Market from 10 to 4 at Serendipity Studio — a weekly favorite for handmade goods and local art. Over at the Washington Pavilion, Santa will be greeting families from 10 to 4, followed by a special gallery reception, From Whoville to Your TV: The Art of the Grinch, from 2 to 4 PM. You’ll see original artwork and animation cels from the classic Dr. Seuss Christmas special — it’s a little slice of nostalgia you won’t want to miss.
If you’re in the mood for a festive photo op, stop by The Arctic Express Portrait Experience at the Jones Seed Building between 5 and 7 PM. It’s an immersive holiday-themed photo experience perfect for family portraits and Christmas cards.
Saturday night, grab a drink and sing your heart out at Karaoke at Glacial Lakes Distillery from 8 to midnight.
And on Sunday, the holiday magic continues with Breakfast with Santa at Rivage Oak Kitchen from 10 to 2. Bring the kids, take photos, and enjoy a family breakfast in one of downtown’s newest spots.
This weekend is just a taste of what’s happening downtown all month long — and next week brings one of Sioux Falls’ biggest holiday traditions: the First Bank & Trust Parade of Lights, plus the lighting of the Market Beat Holiday Plaza Christmas Tree. Thousands of people gather downtown for this magical night, so mark your calendars now.
For all event details, parking information, and downtown shopping guides, visit DTSF.com — and make downtown Sioux Falls part of your holiday tradition.
