Blog—August 6, 2025—9-10—It’s YOUR Business
On the It’s YOUR Business Shows on this August 6th---we did salute Ag Appreciation Day in full in the 10:00 show—and with guests in the 9-10 Show.
WE started the SHOW –with Dr. Tim Ridgway---who is the Dean of USD Sanford School of Medicine.
Dr. Ridgway and I go back a decade or two---but I’m enjoying working with him---particularly as we follow the new students and what they are doing outside of the classrooms.
Last week—we had 3 of the students---3rd year students who had talked with us in Pierre—when they made the trip from Vermillion and got the attention of the lawmakers and even the Governor Kristi Noem.
Just recently we talked to the three—about what they are learning and what they are getting working in smaller communities. All three were impressive and we’ll talk to more students as the students head back to the classroom shortly.
As it turns out our family as worked and watched Dr. Tim take care of business with patients and now with a different kind of patience as the Dean. We will help these young people become doctors---and if there is anything we can do to round-them up with the public and whatever communities they take—we will do that.
We then talked with Joseph Kippley---Sioux Falls Health Director. He helps us understand what they are doing as health centers like Falls Community Health—a unique clinic to serve the community and have engaged patient involvement with a mission of serving the underserved. In 2024—South Dakota’s six Federally Qualified Health Centers provided care to more than 126,500 individuals at 42 sites in 30 communities. These community health centers employ over 900 people in our state and generate over $230M in combined economic impact.
Director Kippley got us an update on mosquito diseases---and why we all have to be so careful.
Right behind the Sioux Falls Health Director was Congressman Dusty Johnson---our first guest on Ag Appreciation Day. He left his home Mitchell this morning—gave us what he was thinking –and then talked with us about what was expected from constituents at the ag appreciation luncheon. Dusty of course has already announced his plan to run for Governor---but thee was no sign –me as an old reporter saw---that he wasn’t taking care of business. He is and he will.
Dr. Joshua Jorde –with his discussion on backpacks in schools was reminding us that the start of school days isn’t that far off. He picked that a number of schools are getting ready to make sure that new backpacks can be a problem more than they can be a convenience. If you are going to get a good one make sure it includes a lower strap to go around the body in addition to the arm straps and you should make sure the arm straps are tight enough to keep the bag up and not dropping down.
And yes autumn sports can also call for adjustments—particularly getting back into the swing of sports practice to help as the body gets used to the unfamiliar motions and activities again.
Dr. Jorde cautioned that with the kids still growing it is good to get checked a few times a year at least just to make sure they’re growing in the right director.
We got an update from Davis Trosin---on the Sanford International Golf tournament coming up next month. We got an update on the new enrollees to play—and talked about the Sanford event brings to family that can go out and enjoy the professional golfers—now as seniors tying together the 50+ golfers who made their mark and are still entertaining and scoring on the greens. We talked as well about the golf courses –those with multiple courses as partners enjoyed what happens when the seniors hit town. Those thinking about playing golf do---and they get engaged by the seniors who are playing in the Sanford International.
Our It’s YOUR Business Show---today---covered a lot of Fair, City of Sioux Falls, and small communities doings.
Listen live to the show at 1320, 105.1, 107.9---use the KELO App—streaming on line or just ask Alexa. Norm Anderson posts the show as a podcast---my job is to schedule the guest—study what they want to say—ask the questions---and then write this blog to describe what was in the hour long show.
