Blog—August 15, 2025—9-10—It’s YOUR Business
It’s YOUR Business---Show 49-38 in our Original It’s YOUR Business Series----yes this the blog---about the show –what was in it---and why it was so important on this Friday.
We start with Jodi Schwan---Sioux Falls Business---and as always the case Jodi—was tied into the Bender Mid-Year Outlook----which showed what is happening here----the buildings---the houses---and Mr. Bender is one smart cookie who pays attention to the trends, knows the players and forecast off all of that. What Jodi was sharing in her journalistic work followed the dots---and on Monday----after the last two Monday’s we have included the Report Card Show and the Remodelers Show from the home builders, real estate agents, the bankers and more---Mr. Commercial Real Estate---Ron Nelson will be in Monday’s show---talking about what he sees in the business side of the commercial real estate. It’s something that Ron would like to more and more of—so we will do our best---to give that side of the real estate railings.
Jodi had also followed the news conference on Thursday—in which the announcement was made about the School of Medicine leaving Vermillion for Sioux Falls. Tim Ridgway who heads the school had done quite the interview with Jodi-----on what was happening—and Jodi and Tim were able to talk about the trends they see—and even answered some of my questions. It’s a big deal for Sioux Falls and South Dakota—and we will continue to follow this along –in changing times.
Jessie Schmidt—BBB of South Dakota—talked with us about another scam—EBT Scams—National Cybersecurity Alliance----and as Jessie always warns us on Friday---be careful what you get tied to. It’s dangerous and thank heavens we have a Better Business Bureau---that follow-ups and answers media questions—to make sure even more people know about it.
Teri Schmidt---Experiencing Sioux Falls---talked to us about a stat that showed the number of tourists moving or not coming to visit here. It is an important trend for our businesses. Teri knows how to gauge what is happening---and we will continue to work with her as we want the best results of people coming to Sioux Falls and having quite the experience. And of course the number of people that come to Sioux Falls affects the dollars that are spent---and of course—the bottom line.
We talked as well with Kip Rounds—South Dakota Game Fish and Parks----they were looking forward as so many of us are---attending Dakota Fest in Mitchell next Tuesday-Wednesday-Thursday. Kip explained it gives GFP a chance to share what they do---as well as promote the hunting and fishing side of our Dakota Days. We look to see Kip in Mitchell on Wednesday when we do our live show.
Congratulations to our Downtown Dude---Brandon Hanson---he was a little busy as was his wife this weekend with a birth of a new child. Always know that the Hanson’s will make great parents—and if I can fill in with some of the activities that are downtown the next days I will. And I did in this show—five events---they had picked and I was happy to play the Announcer Guy.
John Gaskins—Sioux Falls Canaries—gave us an update on what is left for the end of the season. They are in 3rd place in the Division---and are a cinch to make the playoffs. They have been playing well---and we know it will be an interesting close to the regular season—and survival of the fittest when playoff-play-plods along. Sioux City is doing well—just a little better than Sioux Falls—but the season is not over.
Cat Clark---updated us on not only the Sanford International that is coming in September---but who’s playing which golf tournaments. We got a chance to talk equipment---tournaments---and how proud seniors are to show their kids and grandkids—golfers they followed when they were growing up. Yes a John Daly---and many others-that grace Sioux Falls each year.
Tenny Snyder---talked to us about who has been added and what is ahead for the Sanford International---something that Davis Trosin does with us in the weeks leading up---but he had Tenny share what is coming and what to expect. It is a great time for Sioux Falls—and those in golf—and yes families as well.
Diana Patterson—Sanford Career Opportunities the feature this week. And of course it comes at a time that the change with Sanford has it moving from Vermillion to Sioux Falls in the very near future—to enlarge and grow the medical students and family.
Listen live to the show at 1320, 105.1, 107.9—use the KELO App Streaming on line or just ask Alexa. Norm Anderson posts the podcast-my job is to schedule the guest—prepare the questions---do the interview and write this blog. You can reach me at bill.zortman@mwcradio.com or call 728-BILL.
