Blog—August 1, 2025—9-10—It’s YOUR Business

Our It’s YOUR Business Show for the 1st day of August 2025—covered ground that in the 49-22 shows we have done was new territory. But good communication for our listeners. Segment in both the 9-10 and 10-11.

Jodi Schwan---Sioux Falls Business—has a lot of pieces parts that were special. Jodi talked about what she was doing with a number of topics---some got on the air—others did not. POET ranking among the nation’s top container exports, Health Plan costs are impacting employers bottom lines—and the question what can you do about it?

Regardless of those stories—or the others she covers and prepares for audience participation---having supervised hundreds of broadcasters and print media for years…she has perhaps the best I’ve ever worked with. Smart---sincere—story-telling star. (Don’t tell her I shared that)

Jessie Schmidt—BBB of South Dakota –talking about those people that try to and often do---take somebody to the cleaners. Can be any age—a woman or a man---and the advise that we hear from Jessie is don’t fall for old tricks that can take thousands of dollars from what you have—just by being a good person. Each week that I hear another story from BBB about this—makes me wish we could reach the victims before they are taken----we have a healthy audience—but we need our listeners to pay attention –think twice---and you don’t have to be South Dakota nice, or Minnesota Mellow, or Iowa ideal---be smart---and think twice.

With the weather having been a real challenge this week---- with damage---in a wide swath----Laura Edwards—South Dakota State Climatologist—fit nicely into our early slot in the 9:00 hour. She talked about the damage---the amount of rain----and what we might expect thru the first few days of August. Interesting week—plenty of damage---and we know with the smoke moving thru our states from Canada---it has been even more interesting.

Kip Rounds was missing from South Dakota Game Fish and Parks but David Parker—Director of the Outdoor Campus—gave us a short-course on fall internships, volunteer opportunities, fall booklets—and yes a busy time looking ahead. We were happy that he moved here from Charlotte, North Carolina---and with Kip and team---do all we can do for GFP and the Outdoors in our State.

Congressman Dusty Johnson has been on the road all over South Dakota---and yes in that rat-pack place called Washington DC. Dusty of course has announced he is running for Governor—but he talked about the people he had seen across South Dakota this week--- and decisions that were being made on the Potomac--- Always interesting---I give him and the other politics a chance to talk----and share there thoughts to continue be a card-carrying voice----but I don’t bend for GOP or Democratic party---just care about those that are listening and what they could be going thru as we hit August 1st in 2025.

Brandon Hanson---Downtown Sioux Falls –shared a little time with his Congressman to fit him in---but he did talked about the Art & Wine Walk and Open Streets tonight in Downtown Sioux Falls from 5-8. One nite only event is a chance to stroll thru Downtown –sip wine, and experience art in a completely unique way.

Saturday August 2nd—5-9PM—near Fawick Park—unlimited tastings of food, wine, craft beer, bourbon and more. Live music and games for their ticketed event-flavorful, feel-good evening drawing hundreds.

A can’t miss outdoor concert tonight blending rockabilly, folk and Patin roots into one feel-good summer sound. Rascal Martinez at Levitt at the Falls.

The Atrium Makers Market, Shriver Square (corner of Phillips and 11th) is Saturday 10am to 4PM—Serendipity Studio Gallery & Gifts. Find one-of-a-kind handmade goods in a cozy indoor market.

And The Bring Beans at the Levitt at the Falls (Family Concert) Saturday 10:30-11:00AM. Bring the kids—high energy family-friendly events and live music, downtown is full of reasons to get out.

John Gaskins---Sioux Falls Canaries---talked about a great winning side to the homestand—with one of the worse standing teams -that then pulled a couple nights of upsetting the birds. They are off from Kansas City---and you are entertained when you hit the Bird Cage and watch Gutsy Gaskins-go.

Cat Clark—had the update as we hit August for the play at Elmwood, tournaments going on for all ages---and they even talk about the importance of the Sanford International Coming in September and how it is so good for the community and the game of golf—including Elmwood.

With the Sioux Empire Fair opening at 5PM today—Julie Hammer talked to us about all you’ll see and be able to do in the next week. How—we are do for some good weather—the Fair is the perfect place to go for multi-generations—see the newly born animals---enjoy the rides and the fair food.

Diana Patterson did the search for RN’s and LPN’s in our 9:00 show. Sanford Career opportunities many of the options are just Sioux Falls---but sometimes it is Sanford wide.

Listen live to the show at 1320, 105.1, 107.9—use the KELO App—Streaming on line or just ask Alexa. Norm Anderson posts the podcast to the show—I write this blog—after scheduling the guests—doing my homework and looking for the best use of our time that we can.
