Blog—April 30, 2025—10-11—It’s YOUR Agri Business
Occasionally what do a show that has moving parts. In essence---guests expected to be in like Iowa Ag Secretary Mike Naig was speaking at a farm meeting in Oscalossa----so I saw a story from South Dakota’s only Congressman Dusty Johnson----and in 7 minutes—his office had set up a live appearance in our Agri-Business show---so I traded “A Naig” for “Determined Dusty”---
Being an old tv reporter---I know how to take a missing guest and trade up----for a breaking story.
Neither the guest---or the host (that’s me) missed a beat—we talked about the family in South Dakota that had been sold down the river by another White-House—and how the South Dakota Delegation and the tough nosed family were able to get an I’m sorry from the Government and a get out of jail free card. I have to admit the President was taking way too much credit for it---the SD Delegation plus a former Governor who lost her purse---where able to use their credit to get it done.
Asked Dusty as Congressman who gets plenty of free air-time looking at becoming a Governor –what kind of inquiries are South Dakotans asking with all the pushing back and forth—Demos and GOP-s---and that is really my favorite question to an office holder. I always find out what’s on the minds of constituents ---and not be too personal.
You can bet that Dusty –getting more attention in many even though Senator Rounds went to the Funeral of the Pope---The Former Governor got her purse and $3000 back ---John Thune was taking his cross-fire being a Republican Leader in the Senate.
Thanks to the delegation for working with me---including Governor Rhoden too.
The Worthington FFA—picked up a big award at the Minnesota FFA Convention—and with the help of those in our neighboring state---we had four of the winners talking with us about how they won---and passing the torch to the next generation. Tuesday we interviewed their Ag Secretary—Thom Peterson---and that was after we did a number of South Dakota “talkies” over the last couple of weeks---and we’ll talk with the Iowa Ag Secretary on Friday.
Thanks to Jackie Sorenson---Thorson Heating and Air Conditioning for helping our audience understand what they are doing with HOT MAMA Mother’s Day Air Conditioner and Heating giveaway. This is the 3rd year of the event---first year there was 92 entered—last year 110—and the hopes even more this year. I like there style and we’ll follow along as the deadline to enter is May 7th and the winner will be announced within a week after that.
The first two winners were going thru health challenges---life challenges---and to me---why wouldn’t you donate and enter mom if you have your story.
Brent Baloun---Plains Commerce Bank---shared how they are helping—the businesses and those in agriculture. The young and older couples---at a time that the government isn’t exactly doing any favors with those older---needing social security which is endangered---scared about the tariffs----and not knowing who to believe when it comes to the two political parties and their leaders. The key thing—talk o your bankers---Plains Commerce has been getting closer to their customers thru the years—and we help them every Monday and Wednesday in the 10:00 Show.
Sarah Heinrich –had the GROWING Harvest Network from our Fargo Sister Station KFGO—Sarah Heinrich----Matt Swenson---Swenson Commodities followed with the morning farm numbers---plus Wall Street.
We had a visit as well with Tea Club House that is almost ready for showing off this weekend. We had a chance to talk with Amy Evans---to find out more—and just why this is such a big deal for Tea and the residents.
Occasionally when it is a very important topic we will run a segment in the 9:00 hour and repeat portions of the interview in the 10:00 hour. We did that this morning as we learned from Dr. Tim Ridgway—about what they are doing to keep their Med Students educated and prepared for quite the life taking care of patients. It is re-accreditation time---and Dr. Ridgway shared with us what they are doing—to make certain that the students are getting the education possible. Plus it doesn’t hurt for them to be told how important they are---and given the chance to make a trip with their classmates to Pierre to be honored by lawmakers during the Regular Session.
Students get a chance to see patients---the patients actually like to be a part of the education---and we shouldn’t we have the best in South Dakota.?
We enjoy our visit with Dr. Ridgway---and we know what he answers for me is helpful to our audience—and gives them a positive feeling about where we are—and where we are going with a loaded deck of med students in our next generation.
Mr. Tree John Ball---visited with us as we talked about the shape—yes our trees—are in as we head into May. Yes Mr. Tree—helps us---even when he talks to a broadcaster –that never did well with trees in my studies in Iowa-Texas—Mississippi—Alabama-Tennessee-and even in South Dakota.
We closed the show with Justin Glisin---Iowa State Climatologist. You’ll need to listen to what he shared about moisture---where we are and where we are headed going into May.
Norm Anderson will post the show as a podcast—my job is to schedule the guests---get their insights on what is important on each subject---they do the Q & A---and write the show---and this blog that sums it up.
