   Activities this week----

10:35

Bryson Patterson – US Small Business Administration will interview Trent Staggs, Regional Advocate, Region VIII, U.S. Small Business Administration

Bill: Introduces Bryson Patters – US Small Business Administration

  • Bryson, I understand you have some special guests visiting Sioux Falls, and Humboldt this week?

Bryson:

  • SBA, USDA/Rural Development, Manufacturing Technology Solutions, and GOED, are all working together to host Regulatory Roundtables for the Manufacturing and Agriculture Industries on Wednesday in Sioux Falls, and Thursday in Humbolt.
  • We will be hosting our SBA Region 8 Advocate, Trent Staggs, and our SBA Rural Advocate, Joe K.
  • We are joined this morning my Mr. Trent Staggs – Trent are you on the line?

Trent:

Bryson:

  • Thanks for joining us this morning. First question Trent, what do you do in this role of SBA Region 8 Advocate?
  • You are out there listening to small businesses finding out about what kind of regulations are holding them back from growing, from hiring – but can you really do anything about it? Have you had some successes that you can share?
  • How does that work? Trent what is the process for getting a regulation like that changed?
  • So, the first step is knowing. You need small business owners to tell you about their issues so that the SBA Advocate’s Office can bring their resources to bare and start the process of making a change. So, is that why you are coming to South Dakota then?
  • What should people expect when they come to one of these events?
  • (at this point we will do time check)
    • with time, banter about the events, prior visits to South Dakota, other examples of Advocacy successes etc.
  • Bryson: Wednesday morning 9:00 AM at Maguire in Sioux Falls – Manufacturing Roundtable – Thursday morning 9:00 AM at the Even Farm 7 miles south of Humboldt at the intersection of SD 18 and SD 40.

WHO:    Trent Staggs, Regional Advocate, Region VIII, U.S. Small Business Administration

Joseph Knilans, Rural Advocate, U.S. Small Business Administration

WHEN:

Wednesday April 29 9:00 – 11:00 CT

Thursday April 30 9:00-11:00 CT

WHERE:

Maguire

Sioux Falls, SD

The Even Farm

Int. of SD HWY 19 & SD HWY 42

WHY:    Small businesses are the engine of our economy. When regulations hamper business growth and expansion, our economy suffers. SBA is seeking input from small businesses to improve the regulatory environment to lower costs and boost production.

About the Office of Advocacy

The Office of Advocacy is an independent agency within SBA. The Advocate, and the ten Regional Advocates, are appointed by the President of the United States. The mission of the Office of Advocacy is to advance the views and concerns of small business before Congress, the White House, federal agencies, federal courts, and state policymakers.
