Brandon Hanson---Downtown Sioux Falls—what’s up that we should know about?
Friday night, you’ve got a great mix depending on your pace.
Hairspray continues at The Premiere Playhouse — it’s been a strong draw, high-energy, and one of those shows that’s just easy to enjoy.
If live music is more your speed, Dopethrone and Year of the Cobra take over ICON for a louder, late-night crowd.
Or, for something more laid back, Kiran Cordes is live at Myrtle’s Speakeasy — smaller setting, great atmosphere, and a really solid way to spend the evening.
Saturday is a big one during the day.
From 10 to 2, it’s the Parade of Apartments — a self-guided tour of downtown living spaces. This is a great opportunity to step inside some of the lofts, apartments, and developments that people are choosing to call home. If you’ve ever been curious about living downtown, this is the day to check it out.
Saturday evening, Jazz Crawl at Myrtle’s Speakeasy brings live jazz into an intimate setting from 6 to 9.
And again, Hairspray returns Saturday night if you haven’t caught it yet.
Sunday gives you a couple of more relaxed options.
At 2:00, Inside the Circle: Premier Wines at Harvester Kitchen offers a smaller, curated wine experience — a nice change of pace.
And then Hairspray wraps up the weekend with a Sunday matinee.
Looking ahead, next weekend is one you’ll want to plan for.
Open Streets returns on May 1st, sponsored by AARP, and this is where you really start to see downtown shift into summer mode.
We’ll be closing down Phillips Avenue from 10th to 12th and turning it into a walkable, car-free space filled with activity. This first one of the season is paired with the Spring Art & Wine Walk, so you can move through pop-up galleries, meet local artists, and sample wines along the way.
What makes Open Streets special is how simple it is. We take space usually used for cars and turn it into something people can actually experience.
You’ll find local vendors and makers, live music, family-friendly activities, outdoor seating, food trucks, and interactive art — all built around the idea of slowing things down and creating connection.
It’s easy to drop in, walk around, and stay longer than you planned.
So as you’re out downtown this weekend, keep that on your radar for next Friday.
