Blog---April 24, 2024---9-10—Working on Wellness Wednesday
Our Working on Wellness Wednesday---covered some community ground today—but still created quite the trail in health care.

We started with Dr. Joshua Jorde----Jorde Chiropractic---and he got right to it—People injured themselves all throughout the year and most of the injuries are done in or around the HOME. Working out, cleaning house, moving, packing gardening---and of course they can get injuries at work.

A lot of people don’t like to use workman’s comp unless an injury is extremely severe—but Dr. Jorde shared that at least part of tat is due to not knowing how it works.

It can be used for any injury that occurs on the job or at the working---or maybe the parking lot has a spill.

OSHA manuals exist for a reason---one very important thing to know in South Dakota—at least—is that who you go first both entirely up to the employee and also can get locked in by your employer.

What we learned was an who you go to first is both entirely up to the employee and also can get locked in by your employer. If you go to a medical doctor or other doctor recommended by your employer is going to have to stay with the physician unless you get written approval with the company to change providers or are referred to a specialist.

Some employees may want to seek chiropractic care for their injury whether their from a chiropractor they are already are familiar with or seeing for the first time.

We learned as well that an employer is understandable, not responsible for a condition worsening, even if it was obviously from a work injury. If the employee doesn’t take timely steps to correct it or at least prevent it from worsening.

Always smart to take care of what got injured as early as possible before it can worsen.

Dr. Jorde concluded—if you have an injury, don’t leave it alone longer and let it worsen. And if you need a chiropractor—there recommendation is to find of the three good ones at Jorde Chiropractic –2821 S Center Avenue.

Kevin Jordanger, Director of Avera Pace---shared with us they will have their 44th Annual Avera PACE Conference and Tradeshow May 8th.   9:32---Dr. Allen Unruh joined us for his one of two interviews we do with him each month. Generally we talk with one of those patients he is working on from Unruh Chiropractic---today we talked about the Alpha Center Annual Dinner.

We learned from Dr. Unruh that with his wife Leslee-40 years ago the started the center---designed to give those making a decision on a baby. As Dr. Unruh shared—he learned about Right to Liie at Elkton----and learned that you can make a difference—by providing an organization that can allow those questioning what to do----with a pregnancy to visit---get some straight answers—and then make their own decision. Help can addressed 7 days a week---there is help with diapers and clothes----and indeed it has filled a gap in Sioux Falls—and affected a lot of lives.
For some reason my friend Bishop Donald DeGrood will be there to pray---I’m there to announce the Bishop and help those attending at the Sioux Falls Convention Center to hear what is being done---and how they can help. Straight answers—straight approach---and my job is to keep the event running in what all hope will be filled with information---good food—and contributions to keep doing what they are doing.

More from Dr. Unruh on Friday.

Guest #4---Wendy Dooley from the HELP LINE. Last week they recognized over 80 volunteers at their Spirt of Volunteerism Event—it was a great chance to thank a volunteer.

Thru a partnership with Operation Hope and the Sioux Falls Community Foundation, those who call 988 and benefit from additional counseling—that can link them to Avera, Sanford, and Falls Community Health.

Individuals will be eligible for up to 3 appointments at no cost to them and this warm hand-off helps people when they need the support most. Thanks to the Help Line for spreading out and helping others across South Dakota.
